Greetings, and welcome to my nightmare(?)

Where do I begin?

I've experienced SP for many years now, perhaps since I was 10 (so about 20 years). It's never been positive as it was not voluntary, but from about 15 I realised (I have generally been able to control my fear in this state) that with a small amount of concentration towards a single extremity it would twitch and I would go for breakfast.

My mother, who experiences it roughly once every couple of months, immediately panics (she has a phobia of being buried alive because everyone thinks she's dead), and I cannot seem to teach her how to control her fear.

I have had maybe two LD in my life, both not from SP but from logical realisation about my surroundings (i.e. wait, I'm not in High School anymore...)

So, in short - I got SP a lot, it's very simple and coherent (i.e. I'm very much awake, just paralysed), and I've never LD, hallucinated or anything else.

Fast forward to now - I hadn't experienced it for a few years, until late last year, and this happens.

It was frightening, beyond anything I've ever experienced. So much so, that I was motivated to find out what this is all about. It was only then that I read to find out what the being was, and that what I had was not uncommon and in some circles, SP was sought after.

So this forum has made me see that there is a very positive side to SP, which I have regularly, to which I'll have to investigate.

Well I assume your talking about sleep paralysis right? If you are and you are experiencing it alot you really shouldn't worry. Meaning as it happens to everyone every night so they dont act out their dreams. I guess with you two it just happens too early while you still are awake. But on the bright side SP happens in WILD so idk maybe you can use it to your advantage in trying to obtain WILD lucid dreams.

Yeah, it's definetly sleep paralysis.

I was never afraid of it (well, the first time I was, not afterwards though), because I could always leave the paralysis at any time. It was that one recent experience that rattled me.

Truth is, I never knew about SP and all that - just thought it was an anomaly that I had. At first wikipedia filled in the blanks, but also bothered me with the folklore :)

Now I'm just looking to get it all back, with the LD addition.

I've been so afraid of SP since childhood, until like 1 month ago when I found out what it was :) (after what, 14years of terror?) Now Im using it to my advantage to induce LDs. So called WILD.

So if you find it easy to enter SP, its a blessing :) Since from there, you can enter dreams with minimum effort.

It would be easier to enter, if my wife didn't keep shoving me for snoring in my sleep.

My mother has a far greater "ability"(?) than me - she has it so often and it's like her personal torment, even has it while on her side. As it turns out I've told her about LD and this site, she may be more positive about it all.

Yeah I prefer doing it on my side :) Feels better. Earlier SPs kept me from being able to sleep. Really annoying. I havent been able to do it during the day yet tho, like in the afternoon. Working on it.
