i am still a newbie, but when i thought i had my first LD, it was so short, i just woke up a few seconds later. so now i am wondering, why wouldn't i wake up, if i know i am dreaming, isn't that a trigger to wake up?

If that's the association you instantly make concerning lucidity, then you can almost assuredly count on waking up. Luckily, once you recognize this idea is based entirely in myth and hearsay, and disregard it for the utter rubbish it is, your newfound outlook will actually help you remain within the dream. Of course, your excitement levels and where you direct your focus all play a role in that tell-tale moment of realization, but assuming you'll wake up every time you achieve lucidity is probably the worst thing you can do to yourself.
oh okay, good thing i wasn't assuming, but just wondering then ^^
im doing a WBTB right now by the way so lets hope for a lucid dream! ^^
The first time you get lucid and stay asleep is mind blowing! Best of luck. :)
