Hi :)... Trouble getting sleep paralysis

Hi there, firstly I'd like to say how much I appreciate this site and I'm grateful for discovering lucid dreaming. I've been trying to LD for about two weeks now, and I have a couple of problems/questions. First, no matter how long I try, I CANNOT feel the sleep paralysis vibration feelings. I realize how some people won't feel them at all, but I don't even get the "shift" or whatever you call it. At any point in my attempt, I feel as if I can just get up normally as if nothing happened. I think it might be that I'm too awake, but I'm not sure. Another thing i'm wondering is that I'm supposed to stay completely still while WILDing, right? But does swallowing saliva actually affect anything, does it tell my mind that I'm not sleeping? Hopefully you guys will have some advice for me, my main concern is that I don't feel sleep paralysis, I tried for TWO HOURS last night lol. I'd appreciate any help at all, thanks.

well last night i tried a wild attempt and it failed. which i expected. and as i was laying there my hands started to tingle and my legs kinda vibrated. and for some reason i had to swallow every like 10 seconds. i thought this weird because i never have to think to swallow it just happens. one thing that i did was say the alphabet but with every letter put a word or picture with it. example A apple B bear C cat D dog E everybody F fish.. and so on. this helped the vibration/tingling come and also after about the third time i would see shadows move in every direction and my eyes was moving like crazy. but everytime i thought about it i had to swallow, this didnt interrupt it completley but deffinitly lessened the shadows and tingling. nothing formed into a dream but i think im absolutley getting closer. So my advice.. dont just lay there. there is a few attempts that people use. one is the Abc method which i think might work another is to keep reapeating something in your head, example "you will know when your dreaming" "this is a dream' "do a reality check", (there are many more.) i find it best to just say one sentence over and over but some people do more. You could try the things dakotahnok said, or you could try other techniques instead. WILD is hard. I would not recommend to someone who has never had a lucid dream before. There are plenty of other techniques in the tutorial section, try DILD or MILD. Good luck!

I agrea start by mainly focusing on DILD but with some WILD practice to just don't focus on it. oh and that ABC thing sound a heck of alot beter than counting to one hundred over and over. I want to try that tonight. :P

yeah you acually get into a groove lol. it takes longer because you kinda have to think so doing it five times should be enough. but i think the most helpful thing is the tutorials

Hmm, what I do is count to 100 and with every number say "I am dreaming." So like "1, I am dreaming" "2, I am dreaming" etc.

Alphabet sounds better though, I'll try that.

Okay well I tried the alphabet thing, but it was on a noisy old ferry going to Hong Kong.. So concentration was limited. Still, I think if I had maybe half an hour longer than I did, it might have worked. I liked it, I think I'll alternate between methods. See which one works first in giving me a WILD. I've only ever been able to get semi-sp with numbers.

It says on here that you need to do it either in the afternoon or in you REM sleep. That's just what I've heard I've never had a WILD so...

It's best to do it after you wake up after a dream or before a nap, but it's doable (but much harder) to do before bed at night. On the other hand repeating something like "I am dreaming" over and over again before you sleep could help you have a MILD.

I've tried twice. The first time I got quite close. My eyes were moving around really fast and uncontrollably and I started vibrating. But then I got excited and lost focus. I tried again last night and lay still for over an hour. But I couldn't stop my eyes moving. I'd twitch occasionally aswell, don't know if that affects it, because I didn't do it on purpose... But I heard a scratching noise at one point that went on for awhile, but in the end I gave up. :panic:

Does twitching affect it? It was my body doing it, not me.

and what about swollowing? thats what i have trouble with.

I think the twitching is alright because it's involuntary and fairly quick. But the swallowing really snaps me out of it, at least when I think about it it does.
