8-10 hours of sleep is the first step.
Dream recall is the second step.
Motivation is the third.
RCing/critical state testing/awareness/MILD is the forth
CONSISTENCY is the fifth.
so what technique did you use when you first tried it?
DILD only. I still do.
I would say to start with, you should stick to reality checks, state testing and the like with MILD and DILD's. Keeping a dream journal is really important, like that is priority #1. Without good dream recall you won't even remember your lucid dreams! Really, there is no easy way, just consistency. Well actually, you could look into things like isotonic/binaural tones or the novadreamer.. But thats pretty unnecessary, supplements are generally a waste of money for dreaming too. Just work hard at it, don't stress over it and you should have one soon. Good luck!
I'm still a little confused. Should I start with DILDs and MILDs? How long should I use those before moving on to harder techniques like DEILDs and maybe WILDs?
Easiest Way:
1) Keep a Dream Journal, record every dream you have in it.
2) 8-10 hours of sleep with WBTB.
3) Constantly ask yourself throughout the day if you're dream or not, and reality check.
Just start with a DILD. Most first lucid dreams just come randomly to people who get a really vivid dream, which is why dream journals are key.
Once you have experienced the feeling of a decent lucid dream, you can move forward. DEILD would be the next best step as WILD is more difficult, plus DEILD will give you a good feeling as to what to expect in a WILD (since DEILD is basically a WILD minus the 20 minutes it takes to achieve SP).
Great, that helps alot, thanks so much for helping me
Yeah, most people would say that DILD was there first lucid, but it requires some mental effort and writing in your dream journal and reality checking. Just practice and don't give up ;) It may take a couple of days or weeks... or possibly even on your first night.
