As we all know, Inception is that very thing - a well-advertised, big budget thriller that deals primarily with our little community's subject of lucid dreaming. This is likely going to lead to a great influx of people who think "Oh man, I wanna do that", look it up on Google, and find us. |

Hm, I wanted to see the movie next week, but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it. |
|
I ran into a guy last night I've never met before, and as we were making conversation he asked if I'd seen the movie. He told me he looked up lucid dreaming immediately after seeing it himself. I told him about our forum here. Anyways, turns out he's a neuroscience major, with a minor in molecular biology. So no, the influx of "newbs" is not going to be composed entirely of idiots. We were all newbies too, and our fine group is composed of many different personality colours, and from the legally retarded to the geniuses among us. If anyone is worried about the same questions being asked over and over again, please feel free to help our newer members. Point them in the right direction. |

It's a good movie. If you're worried about how accurately it portrays the state of lucidity, don't be. I think it's pretty unreasonable to expect all of the shared dreaming rules from the movie to map perfectly onto the lucid dreaming "rules" that we've constructed as a community. It's not a documentary, it's a story, and it definitely succeeds in entertaining. |
|
No, it's not the accuracy I'm concerned about. I don't expect much more than entertainment. But I do feel passionate about the subject, obviously, and the hype it seems to be stirring.. I mean, there are already big movie posters all over the city here in germany and we're usually quite a bit behind the US when it comes to cinema... and it is still a niche.. it makes me feel uneasy. I really dislike unsubstantial hypes.. I usually try to stay away from them and don't want this movie to ruin anything. I'm surprised and even a little appalled at the level of advertisement and attention at this point. Kind of a turn off for me. This will be the first movie I go to the theatre for in three years, too. |

I agree. My idea is to create a stickied post, both on the front page in bold text and in the forum that says something along the lines of, "have you come here because of Inception? Read this." |

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I ♥ DREAMVIEWS. I always have, and I always will. There is nothing else to it.
I doubt that DV will start to lag because of a few extra thousand people. |

I support the proposition in this post which I am quoting. [Off Topic]Also, Puffin, why do you change your avatar so often?[/Off Topic] |

It'll be fine, just fine. Although I do wonder what the day will be like when lucid dreaming goes mainstream. It's gotta happen eventually, a ludicrously awesome skill like this can't remain in obscurity forever. |

I often think I should put all my threads in Senseless Banter. I'm never sure if I'm being serious or not. |

I don't think inceptions misrepresentation of how dreams works will be a problems, our tutorials are correct. |
|
Even though I haven't seen Inception I have to ask how it could possibly be incorrectly portraying "how dreams work" since it's different for everyone, especially for lucid dreams. |

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.
Inception is wrong because it is saying that all people's dreams work in the same way. |

Oh. Now THAT'S got little truth to it, if any. |
