      Recommend me a book!

So i kinda want to read something similar to Castaneda's books. I want a deep book which would make me think about life, would have a lot of philosophical value etc..

That's so strange. For some reason Castenada jumped into my head when I read the title and I didn't even think about him in quite a while, nor was the title suggestive. I don't have a good recommendation at hand right now,... I will post when I think of one. But that was just too werid.

Good laugh out loud book: Backwards by Rob Grant (my stomach was killing me last time I read it)

The Running Man by Stephen King, very different from the film (I know I know, Stephen King)

      Perfume by Patrick Suskind

the Ender Series by Orson Scott Card. wonderful books.

The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

Where ever the spirit leads. I suggest either the Bohn series or the Jowett. Vol 1 etc. I am still auditing them and making corrections, but you can imagine how many hundreds of hours are involved. I have recently repaird and set up a computer devoted to the audio-book project.

I suggest that for the first few passes to neglect the translators comments. Their intelligence and understanding of what the work is about does not approach, except in very rare cases, to what Plato was about.

      Blindness by Jose Saramago:

Saramago's Blindness is a remarkable dystopia that asks fundamental questions about both the nature of human beings and today's socio-political realities in the "democratic West". In drawing together these two themes — Lord of the Flies meets 1984 -- Saramago offers not only an analysis of our condition but also a call to his readers to respond. We need to begin, he suggests, by reflecting on what we are taking for granted about our own lives and our relationships with others.

I needed to read it for uni and it was great. Apparently, my course coordinator has a brilliant taste in books.

      Read Slaughterhouse-Five.

It is philosophical, which it will get you to look at life and other things from a different perspective. It is also anti-war, which is probably why it is banned in many schools. Very easy read and thought provoking.

Stroke of Insight. A woman (I think a psychiatrist) has a stroke that shuts down the logic half of her brain. she describes her experiences and the recovery. Non-fiction and very cool read if you're interested.

For a something philosophical, I would suggest 'Atlas Shrugged.' I would do that, but I won't, lest you become a greedy sociopath after accepting it's truths.
