      are any of you cat-people?

i really really really want a kitteh. i have since i was a kid, but my dad is allergic (). as soon i move out of the dorms and get an apartment, i am getting a cat, as well as a beagle, because that is what my girlfriend wants. i was just wondering if anyone else is crazy about cats.

I had a cat, but it died. It was the only survivor in its litter. I think my dad threw him away in a bag of leaves.

Cats are one of my favourite animals. They're so squishy and cute.
I used to have two cats but my mom developed allergies.

I love cats but we currently have way too many. I'll be happy to give you some of ours
I own... let's see... 2 adult males; currently 3 adult females (a 4th is MIA); 1 male and 1 female kitten; 1 male and 2 female newly borns
      We adopted 1 male kitten
      I'm cat-sitting 1 male and 1 female kittens
1 male and 1 female kitten adopted us.
Which brings us to a grand total of, omg, 15 felines in all.

Thankfully, we have 13 acres of land and they all stay outside for the most part.

We also have 2 dogs, 2 cockatiels and 1 rabbit.

      Oh yeah... and 4 kids

The rabbit and birds (and unfortunately, the children ) all stay inside.

I love cats! So entertaining and lovable. They each have such distinct personalities and sometimes seem to know more than I do

I have a Tabby and he weighs 20lbs, he's the best to pet and you can do anything to him pretty much and he doesn't care.

I have a white siamese with orange ears, he's really long and thin and is a crazy hunter. He's always killing mice and birds and bringing them to me haha. He also lays on me in the weirdest ways. And he is like super cross eyed sometimes.

Haha... sounds like one of our male kittens. He's black and white and really fluffy. And he's absolutely spoiled rotten.
Our AC vents are falling off in places under our modular home. As soon as we kick the kitten out (Mr. Mr. aka Mr. Friendly) comes right back in. He lifts up the vent lol He's about 6 months old but he's brought us about 3 rats, a robin, and 2 baby bunnies. We throw him back outside with his kills, but he brings them right back but after awhile, he finally get's the point.
He loves my oldest son and sleeps on top of him all the time. Just earlier, I walked by and Mr. Mr. was laying in the crook of my sons arm, on his back, just chilling. He's definitely the favorite of the family (but get's annoying in his persistence to be inside and to enter every room that's off limits like mine).

      OMG, really? SHOCKER!

Well, I guess it depends on the cat. I have a cat named Mary Anne (which my little sis always reminds me is my "neicy" ). I love to hold her, but she is such a biter. I hold her a minute, then she goes to bite my arm . I have my methods...it's quite annoying. She's not a lap cat. She'd rather drink the drips from the faucet or bathtub . But don't get me wrong, I still love my Mary! She is a pro at killing and eating the bugs by the screen of the slider-when it goes high, oh yes I help her! Who needs a cat toy when you have a free bug on the loose that needs to be killed anyway? I would need to have the right cat to say "OMG, I love cats". One that lets me hold her for a while, doesn't bite me, and sits on my lap! Is that so much to ask in a cat!?

I love dogs. I don't care much for cats. My GF loves them. They found a bro and sis pair strays about 3-4wks ago. Have to take the sis in to get her staples removed. They were both neutered last week

What I hate is how hyper they are. If anything moves, they attack it. They play a LOT with each other. It's pretty annoying at times. They should do what is stereotypical of cats and just sleep

I've owned, probably, 30 cats or so throughout my life and NONE of them were "typical". My favorite, Rogue, who ran away when we moved to the Farm would jump 7 feet or so just to get on top of the window unit AC to signal to us that he wanted inside. He was a dark/long haired tabby with a stub for a tail. His only sibling (born with him) was a short haired blue-tipped-ears Siamese. She was a curtain climber and closet pooper (we didn't have her for long!)

Most kittens are playful and hyper- especially when they have siblings.

Our cat, Buttercup, is almost feral. She received the same amount of love and affection as her siblings, but she's still fearful of people for some reason. If you sit on the floor and call for her, she'll reluctantly approach if she's in the mood- then she's the most loviest cat there is. She loves being pet and cuddled- but getting her to get to that point is hard. It's very weird to me lol.

The weirdest thing yet that I've discovered is that most male cats are more affectionate than females. Males also tend to be more playful, early in life, and easier going. Males, in my experience, make great lap cats, sleeping buddies and family pets. Females tend to be more snobbish and independent.

I love dogs too, but they require so much more attention and work. You have to keep them chained up (if you keep them outside and don't have a kennel), walk them every day, play with them, train them etc. At least for me- living on the outskirts of a small city- I can let my cats roam free. They clean up after themselves for the most part and they're more easily entertained.

I was little when out dog was bathroom trained, but she was an outside dog, so if we had her inside, she'd stand by the door if she needed to go to the bathroom. I find dogs are very easy to train. Say the command loud and clear (some physical manipulation will be required) and when they do it, reward with treat and praise. I taught my dog to sit :smug:

I find cats are very hard to train. But if they're doing something they should be doing, they get the spray bottle and a "TSS!" command. Hopefully, they will associate "tss" with getting sprayed so all you'll have to do is say "TSS!" and they'll stop. I don't think the GF's parents, or her, does that when I'm not there. Commands have to be consistant and enforced and the style cannot change. Her mom prob just yells at them then sprays them. I make sure to get in plenty of spray time when I'm there

Dog's take so much more work though... or maybe I've always just had slow-learners lol
The dogs know (with me) sit and stop. I use "tst" which sounds a little like a cat "spit/hissing" and is really effective. It works well on the cats too. And a spray bottle is, indeed, VERY handy when trying to teach cats to stay off the kitchen counters
