Thread: Tragic desert racing accident

I used to live out in the Mojave...how far was it away from Barstow? Either way, I'll send my prayers out to the families.

I hate to sound callous, but wow... something like this is bound to happen eventually when thousands of people stand feet away from speeding trucks flying over bumps. Tragic indeed, but I'm not in the least bit surprised.

This is random, but are you a volunteer EMT or paid? I'm currently in the process of joining my town's volunteer squad, so I'm curious to see how many people have made a career out of it. Do you even have volunteer squads in your area, or are they NJ only?

We are gonna donate money exactly why?

I'm an EMT but not working. I've never heard of volunteer EMT things, so we prob don't have them here

Media likes to slant everything. There were no decapitations that I saw (heard there was only one, but I don't think it was a true decap.)

Not callous at all.

Pointing out the rationale and facts behind a tragedy does not equal to no sympathy/cold-hearted/etc. towards accident victims/families/etc. if those victims were a contributing factor to their own demise.

The word is that that particular area was actually off-limits to spectators, but many disregarded that policy and basically stood a couple of feet away from the race cars for the adrenaline rush and excitement. It's no surprise that when those race cars crash and you're standing just a few feet away nothing good can come out of it.

The organizers need to enforce much stricter spectating zones and the spectators need to spectate more intelligently so that further tragedy can be prevented. Of course with such a high fatality rate, I doubt this race would even continue.
