I'm having a few problems with my computer, if anyone uses linux I think I'll ask for some help.
I use it professionally, what is your problem?
I use it whenever Windows annoys me... that being said, I'm pretty good with it.
I used to use it, but I can't get it to boot lately...
I'm having two problems, I'm using USB version of slax (On an SD card though) and it has worked multiple times before but suddenly it just stopped working, it goes to a black screen when I try to boot it and the cursor turns into an 'X'. And when slax did work I couldn't get Wine to run.
Trying copying it to an actual USB stick, see if that works. if it does then your SD card, or SD card reader is shot. As For Wine.. I don't use ot that much, cause I have windows, but you could try reinstalling it.
Well it turns out I fixed it but thanks for helping anyway(lol), and I did try that at the time and it still didn't work, even on the USB device. Now I have a new problem, when on Slax it doesn't detect LAN internet cable, although it works on my normal XP and Ubuntu.
I'm not Slax-savvy, but I am wondering if perhaps you don't have the right device driver installed. That seems to be my primary cause of hardware not working.
Well I am using Ubuntu 9.10 since last 2 years I wouldn't of recommended Linux because of it's steep learning curve and it wasn't compatible with most hardware. Since then Linux has come a long way. Most Linux Distributions are very solid and user friendly
You see, I sort of knew a driver wasn't installed, but I'm not really the best with computers; so what is a driver- and if its not installed how do I reinstall it? (Doesn't it require some specific computer info?) Also does anyone here work with Python?
You really shouldn't need to download a driver for Linux.... It should already had it, useless it's a properitary driver, which is a pain to get. You might be able to get it from your distros software repository. Only thing is that you need to know your network card or motherboard make.
As for python... I havnt done anything with that in about 2-3 years. What are you programming?
Installed it on a virtual machine once, (Virtual Box).. It was pretty cool.... Especially the Compiz effects...
Compiz is now built into Ubuntu by default. Takes quiet a powerful graphics card though to do the effects.
