What is this exactly? Tattoos? |

So, I've made a post about this before... and have been interested in Body Mods for a while now. Me and my buddy are working on a 'scarification' of a traditional shuswap tribal raven right on my breast bone. We've got the first stage done, and it's a few days into healing. When we're done it should be 6 inches long and 6 inches wide. It's will be slightly raised (keloid) at the center of the crow, and relatively smooth on the wings and tail. It's still in early stages, so it's a little simple and rough. But if all goes to plan it'll shape up nicely. |

Scarification. The design is cut into the skin, and depending on what type of scarring you want.... you'll treat the wound accordingly so it heals to your liking. |

I second this. WHY? |
|
Well why not? |

Just seems like a long and very painful process, with a high of risk of infection, plus I'd think it wouldn't appeal very much to a lot of people, so if you were to be in bed with somebody and they saw that, maybe they would be put off. What do I know, I just don't find scars hot |

EXACTLY!! WHY NOT?!! But seriously... I find it no different than a tattoo. Plus, it is a part of my heritage. 'My people' have practiced scarfication for generations, and I feel that I should be part of this ritual. It has many reasons, and purposes. Coming of age, achieving something... many reasons. Mine is simply to be part of my people and our history. I chose the raven for this particular one because the raven is seen as the bringer of light, and in turn growth and life. The raven boasted the most beautiful colours of all the birds on earth. But there was no light, so nobody could apreciate it. So Raven flew to the sun, and grasped light in his beak to return to earth for all the animals. But the sun burnt away all his colours leaving him charcoal black. |

Other than the risk of infection, I think worrying about what other people think just stops you from being true to yourself. Many people don't think I should get the tattoos I'm going to get because they "wouldn't look nice on a girl". I think screw them, this is for me. |

I agree raspberry, and thanks! If something as superficial as a scar or tattoo will 'put someone off' then that person isn't worth being with anyways. It's my body, it's the way I want to be. If someone doesn't like it, then that's their right... but I won't be around them none-the-less. |

your pattern/design looks random and meaningless |
|
To you maybe. It's going to be a raven when it's all said and done.... this is in early stages. It's helps if you read the post. Also, it clearly is not a triangle. Add a line across the bottom to this "/\" and you have a triangle. That's pre-school stuff right there. |

Fair enough... but that's why this is a forum and not image board. You type stuff on here too. You had to of seen my posts to find the links to the images, but you clearly ignored the rest of the post. I explained quite thoroughly what all this means to me. |

What does it really mean to you though? In the end you are only doing this because your peers also did it. How about finding something meaningful on your own? Nobody can disrespect that. |

None of my peers have done it. It's out of respect for my culture, and I already explained the story of the raven. And I find the that the selflessness of the raven, having been the most beautiful bird on earth and giving it up for the good of earth and it's creatures to be meaningful to me. So there is the cultural significance, as well as the significance of the raven as a symbol that means a lot to me. |

It's not like he's being pressured into it. |

Thanks Raspberry! It will end up being a faint whitish raven... a few shades lighter than my skin tone. Right now it's healing, and I have to let it scab. But it'll clean up nicely. |
