I had kind of given up on this one, but the repeal is a done deal. It will be some time before it goes into effect, but +1 for human rights.

The military is only 40 years late. They aren't the brightest group you know.
Because normal people are far intellectually superior and the dumb need something to compensate with.
Ah, like a man with a small penis who drives a large, fast car. Gotcha. :D
^this.
I didn't like the law, if gay's can't be gay, what right do straight people have to be straight?
To advance my career!
Wait... you want to reproduce? O.o No thanks. I love you condom producer! :)

You're right, it is unnatural. But if you're gay, you're gay. Not much can be done. I personally am not into it. But I have openly gay friends, and I respect them.
Although I have heard people talk about how weird it is to be attracted to women and I'm like "...what?"
How is it unnatural? They are born that way so it must be natural.
My bad
Oh and also gays who aren't really gay, but they act like they are and say that they are anyway for attention. That's just annoying.
Silly buggers, with yer broken sarcasm detectors.
Wonder how much it's going to cost the tax payers to build all those segregated barracks for the military's new addition.
Never mind, that whole shower shit and shave scenario will probable never even be an issue.
Wonder how many conservative alarmists will admit they were wrong when our service members just suck it up (NPI) and deal? Homosexuals are not a "new addition" to the military; they've been there all along, and asking and telling aside, in many cases their squad members knew and didn't give a damn. The change is that they're no longer at risk of summary dismissal--for instance, six months before retirement after a 30 year career--for reasons unrelated to their performance or conduct.
The whole point of the Don't ask don't Tell policy is to accommodate both parties, slick. Seems to me someone needs to....

The point of DADT was to make as much progress as was feasible at the time, in a military still struggling with integrating women into the force, and in which the prior policy was to ask every recruit if they were gay. The point of the repeal is identical, but the military and society are ready for greater progress.
The US will now join the ranks of historically liberal countries such as Russia, Israel and South Africa; well done.
