      MAGIC EYE

I had such a neat experiance at the waiting room today.
You have heard of Magic eye. The 3-D images you stare at and thay take on several levels aside from one dimension. (If you haven't they are cool) All it takes is your eyes focusing on two differant things at the same time. So it can be almost anything. Repetative shapes are the easiest to focus on.

So I was sitting in the waiting room. Looking around. I realized the chair I was sitting on actually looked like a magic eye picture. So as I sat there and focused on it. Sure enough the images seperated into seperate levels. At first I could see the arm of the chair. As I focused more intently I could put the whole image into focus with a little peripheral vision. This is when it got interesting.
It looked like I was sitting on a holigram. It was wild.
So now I pay closer attetion to images that could produce such profound effects.

      Optical illusions are cool.
At the Great Lakes science center in Cleveland they had an entire exhibit on mind trickery & optical illusions. Even going into it knowing that, you would still in most cases be tricked.

One example I remember. There was a wall with twelve holes on it. (or so it seemed) The question was, Which holes were petruding outward and which were indented. Well by looking at this it seemed rather evident. I assumed it was some illusion so I just picked the opposite for no other reason.
Come to find out when you go up to the wall they were all flat.
Why, because of where the shadow and the light were. The holes that had light on the bottom seemed with out a doubt that they were sunken in. And the reason behind that was because as an everyday observer of most eveything you look at, you see the light coming from above you, sun or lamps etc.. And then your brain concludes that it is what it is.

I've still got a book full of these. I could scan them if you want. Though I'm not sure they would work if you did that. I'll look into it.

Yea those things are always a lot of fun if you know how to do it. The way I usually do it is to just pretend that I'm looking through a window as I stare at the picture and eventually everything focuses and voile, a 3-D image appears.

I like those. I remember I was frustrated four years ago when I just couldn't do it. I tend to sort of let my eyes slide out of focus, which is a skill that took me quite a while to master.

I once had a book of magic eyes but I have no clue where it is now.

I did use the concept of magic eye pictures to become lucid once.

Using the WBTB method, I put in my earplugs and started to deep breath (I breath slowly in, hold it for as long as is comfortable and then breath slowly out).
I then started the counting method (1-I'm dreaming, 2-I'm dreaming, etc.) and suddenly the hypnagogic images began.

Our local newspaper every Sunday on the colored comics page had a magic eye picture and when the hypnagogic images appeared, they sort of looked like a magic eye picture so I tried to view them that way. I started to see (or I "created" ) a portal or doorway. I don't remember whether I stepped into it or if I was drawn into it, but I was suddenly lucid!

Ok.. I'm really gonna have to look for that book now!

      Clarity, that's cool!

I also used to get frustrated when I couldn't figure them out. Then I was sitting in my eye doctor's office and while staring at one kind of began to space out and then found that I had "slipped" into the right way of looking at the page and was finally able to see it. I found that one of the tricks is to look beyond the page so that your eyes, rather than being focused together on a particular point, they're slightly diverged so you get the proper perspective. So, now that I figured it out, I can make my eyes do that any time I want and am able to look at magic-eyes with both diverged eyes and crossed eyes.

It's interesting how if you cross your eyes to do it you get the inverse of what you're intended to see. (Just don't get your eyes stuck that way... I've been at the point where I have to consciously return them to normal).

Alaurast78, I've found two ways to do magic eyes.

The first is to hold the picture close to your nose while relaxing your vision. Don't try to focus on the page. Slowly, very slowly, move the page AWAY from your face. DON"T try to focus onto the page. As you move the picture away from your face, the picture will come into focus by itself.

The second is to make two dots about an inch apart on the top of the picture. Slowly move the picture TOWARDS your face until the two dots appear to be three. Your eyes should then be in the right focus to view the hidden image.

LOL Howetzer I love those magic eye things. I find myself trying to do the magic eye trick on alot of things to see if I can see "something" when I'm really bored. Like when I'm sitting, um...on something...I will stare at the speckled tile or the patterns on the walls and try to see if I can make something appear. Or I will just stare at random carpet sometimes and try to make things appear. It hasn't worked yet though sometimes I will get a 3Dish dot effect hehe. I am master of the Magic Eye!

      random carpet. lol
