      adiocassette tape repair

wasn't sure where to post this. I considered Tech Talk but this is definitely more manual than tech. +shrug+

I don't expect anyone to answer "yes" (especially considering the average age group of posters), but have any of you ever repaired a cassette tape by splicing?

I just want to know if I absolutely have to have a special kit and splicing tape or if I can use shit around the house, because it'd be cheaper to buy another copy than buy the special tools. one guide online said you can use masking tape instead of splicing tape, but I don't know about that.. I don't want to completely wreck the cassette or worse, ruin my player. what about scotch tape? I mean that seems thinner and maybe better than masking tape..

also no ugly remarks about me needing to "get with the times" or any such nonsense. I'm steadily going backwards in time and I'm quite content, thankyou. yes, before long I'll be doing everything by candlelight and traveling places by horseback. suck on that.

I think I've repaired a broken cassette tape with scotch tape a long time ago. Just make sure that the everything is lined up on the same side, or half of the tape will play backwards while listening to it. Normally my tapes would get completely eaten up before i could have a chance to make such a repair, so I don't remember doing it that often.

Rob Zombie is scary enough forwards D:

hahaha. well it seems to be working now. I don't see why you're supposed to use a razor blade, we happened to have some but wouldn't scissors work just as well..?
and how did your tapes get -completely- eaten up??
I believe my problem is with my stereo, it almost fucked up another cassette before but I was right there and the tape had only come out a little when I stopped it. I used it some after that with no problems, I thought maybe it was the cassette. this time, I left my room for a few minutes and when I came back it didn't sound right, but I didn't stop it right away because you know us kids and our music you have to wonder if it's part of it. (actually the intro to the first track sounds -exactly- like warbbly cassette, when I first played it I thought the tape was screwy xD) but then I realized AW HELL that is not right and when I took it out about THREE FEET of it resembled an accordian :l
I had to really resist kicking the fck out of my stereo.

Pretty much like that. My boom box didn't have the face guards on them, so tapes could easily get out of line and destroy themselves before I could pause my Super Nintendo and get to them. Sometimes they would seemingly leap out of the player, using the tape as a bungee cord. This seemed to happen more to tapes that I recorded myself, than store bought ones. As for the razor blade action, I think that's just for people who want to be 100% pro with it.
