It makes me upset for some reason

Last week my Mom came into my room while I was sleep and took my blood sugar while I was asleep and it woke me up mildly so I saw her doing it but I was still half asleep so I was not aware really so I went back to sleep and she left.

one week later

My sister,dad,stepmom and I are eating dinner and my sister says had he blood sugar tested and it was good. Suddenly all the images flash back to me. I asked my sister if I had it tested and she grinned and said yes like it was something funny.

later that night

i called my Mom and asked her what she did it for i was crying and i hated it i just felt so violated she said sorry and she said she thinks im over reacting


i still feel weird about it i just seems like an invasion of privacy only worse because it was part of me

That's pretty weird. Why did she do it while you were sleeping without even telling you? I mean you would think that she could just tell you and get it done like that. Unless she knows you are afraid of needles (if you really are, I don't know) I'm not sure what her reasoning was in doing it like that. Try talking to her about it. As far as crying about it and getting all upset, yea I think you did over react a bit, I mean it was just a blood sugar test. If it was a drug test then yea you should have been REALLY pissed off.

I would be thouroghly upset...not so much at her covertly administering a blood sugar test, but entering my room without warning.

I was raised that when you reach a certain age (post puberty, usually) you are granted a certain level of privacy. When my brother and I got our own seperate rooms, my mother would always knock before entering and ask if we were decent. The last thing that wanted was to catch one of us waxing the weasel.

I'd be upset too. It's my freaking blood, and sneaking in to your room to perform a blood test on you is pretty weird. I mean it's up to me wether or not I want to give some of my blood, which is pretty much in a way my damn "life force", and I own it.

I think its just weird. Unless your really scared about getting poked with stuff, I don't know why she wouldn't just ask you. If you are that kind of person though, I can see someone trying to avoid all that trouble.

I am sure she only wanted to make sure your healthly and theres really no reason to be mad or anything. Its just really weird.

It was very much an invasion of your privacy and I can understand your being upset.

Why would she be testing your blood sugar? Does diabetes run in your family?

thanks, im not scared of needles (i was but i got over it 2 years ago)

yes i have an aunt the suffers from it and a great aunt to i think. but me and my sister are both capable of contracting type 1or 2 but that's no reason to test me in the middle of the night

I think it's bothering you because you feel a little violated. I mean, it's not as bad as say, getting raped in your sleep, but the whole helplessness factor is still there.

yea like everyone said, its not the act that upset you, its the invasion part that you are upset about, which is ok. why would your mom do it in the middle of the night when you are sleeping? that's quite odd...

If they didn't understand that that was an invasion of your privacy, I would just go in their room and test THEIR blood sugar (that, or just do stuff like get their blood pressure) :roll:

But then again... why would you listen to me.

i'd be upset too, and like some of the others said, she could have warned you what she was doing, if that had been me, i think i would have been quite alarmed by it. Although i think i might have woken up and smacked whoever it was in the mouth, before they came near me!
and yes, it is an invasion of privacy too...it wouldn't have been so bad if she had actually woken you properly, rather than sneaking about.
I think that's the thing that's most bothersome, is that she had to do it so covertly.

"for some reason"? hell I'd be upset too. it's something to get upset about. you should talk to her, and let her know you disagree with it...or you know, CTs suggestion. either one.

Have you asked her why she had to do it in the middle of the night without your consent?
