Advice needed on a serious situation

Outside my house on the road for about two hours now there has been a naked old man who I don't know, just standing there in the rain and shuffling about. It wasn't really my business so I just left him there, but now there's somebody knocking feebly on my door downstairs every ten minutes or so and I'm pretty sure it's him. I don't want to let him in because basically it's my house and he shouldn't even be in my garden in the first place, so I'm pretending I'm out... is there anything else I should do? I'm really not prepared for this kind of situation.

If you call the police, they will hand the situation over to social services. Or, you can hand him a towel.

Call the police. Stand high above watching with a slow smile as they do battle.

      He's still there...

If I call the police won't they ask suspicious questions of me?

I was thinking perhaps I could force him off my property by other means, like throwing things, although that would hurt him obviously... what about throwing cups of water? I'm sure he'd just go home then...

Being on the offensive would put you in the wrong though? If the police do ask you strange questions, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. You don't have anything to hide, right?

Well they might ask me why I "left" him outside for so long even though it's not my responsibility.

Joking aside, that reminds me I have a decent water pistol...

Have you tried counseling? Don't you think it is sad when you are completely at a loss how to offer humanitarian aid to a fellow human?

Say you noticed him 2 hours ago, then were distracted inside, checked again and saw him. Say you think he's probably been there awhile.

Fear? Uncertainty? Etc? You can't blame a guy for being afraid/not knowing what to do.

      So true.

I definitely don't have the "humanitarian" gene either, but it's still sad to think that it could be someone's senile grandpa that wandered out of the house. If it were my grandpa, I'd hope someone would let him inside, wrap him in a blanket, and call the police to come get him. But like you, I'd probably just try to ignore it and hope that it becomes someone else's problem.

But Xei...what if...what if it's Jesus. I don't know. Maybe you should just let him in.

How about talking to him through the closed door to see what he's up to.

I would prefer this approach to throwing things at him, at least at first.

Do you have a mental hospital or something alike near you?

He's most likely harmless and wandered off from somewhere.

If you decide to call the police, I wouldn't worry about having to answer questions.

They would (have to) take care of him, might be a good idea, especially for him as well.

Uh well I couldn't reach him very well under the porch from the angle he was at with with glasses of water so I had to do the water pistol thing, but that worked and he's back on the road now, so not my problem.

Whatever addled state he's in I'm thinking pretty soon he's going to notice it's dark and that means he should go home.

Maybe you should ask if he's ok. You never know what could have happened to him. Unless he looks like he might eat you.

Discuss it with a neighbor maybe?

This happened to an old woman a little while ago. She was senile and was wandering outside and no one helped her out so she froze to death.
If he's still wandering naked at night, you should really go help him out.

And if he wants to butt-rape you, remember that you are younger and can run away

Wait--so you shot him with a water pistol?

But wasn't it raining already anyway?

It stopped raining a while ago obviously. It clearly worked, anyway, and as he was already wet from before, no harm done really.

Oh yeah, I know a few wandering old geezers. They're mostly senile and terribly confused. If he comes back, at least call the police or something.
