absolutely nothing happens. It doesn't even load to another page. I remember a while back it worked but I dont know what happened. It basically just lights up from me clicking on it, but that's it.
Edit: aha I was clicking the wrong thing. Found it yay, now I can communicate with fellow DV members. Wahoo mountain dew.
I MUST fight off sleep for 1 more hour. I just have to wake my daughter for school then I can crash.
I keep falling asleep at my desk lol I've been playing Facebook games to help pass the time, then I jerk awake to find an error message saying I need to refresh the page lol
*stretch/yawn*
Can't you just sleep and set an alarm clock for when you have to get up to wake your daughter?
I am so tired and stupid and stressed. I have noticed a pattern:
Anxiety + Tiredness --> Voices in my head yelling at me constantly, dialoging obsessively and sounding downright insane.
I need to get more sleep tonight.
But I cannot get off of this forum, even though there are almost no new forum posts at this time of the night. I somehow keep managing to find threads to read or post some small thing in. But it is not entertaining at all, in fact it is becoming sickening. But I cannot get off of it. Stupid internet.
I feel like drinking so badly but that would be really stupid.
I understand exactly what you mean. A large part of my horrible mood is from not sleeping too.
As for alarm clocks. 95% of the time, I will not wake up. My natural inclination is to sleep from around 3-11AM. Despite a decade (at least) of unsuccessfully trying to push that schedule backward, I'm now pushing it forward. 3-6AM are the hardest hours.
I now have a second wind and I'll stay awake until around 9AM and sleep until 5. When I adhere to any sort of schedule, that's what I tend to fall into.
I hope you get lots of rest soon.
My rant is also an anti-rant :D
I was sleeping soundly, then woke for some reason. I went to the restroom, got dressed, grabbed a smoke then heard it. Someone was knocking on the door.
He was halfway across the yard by the time I opened the door. It was our neighbor who also mows our yards. And in his hand was a gorgeous Orange and White striped kitten. He almost mowed it
It was the only one he saw and he's still young enough to be nursing :( He doesn't act feral in the least. In fact, he's the complete opposite. After petting him for just a couple minutes, he started purring and trying to nurse off my hand.
But his mom IS feral. There's been a gorgeous Calico hanging around. I've only seen her twice but the orange matches perfectly.
Ahhh, but I'll finish this later. He's been trying to eat dry dog food and it keeps getting stuck in his mouth lol. Time to go buy him something in a can.
**EDIT**
I hopped over to Exxon and bought some canned Alpo. The little guy LOVES it... but he doesn't really know how to eat it. I held a chunk of it a few times, but he's a vicious eater and those tiny teeth really hurt
Then I put the food on a spoon and held it against a skirt on my lap. He nursed the food but got a full belly. I'd put his age at around 5 weeks.
My rant is that we have never before owned an orange kitten or cat who lived. They seem to have weaker immune systems and just about anything kills them. My daughter is going to love this little guy.... as if we need any more animals!
For some reason all the land line phones in our house are dead. We definitely payed the bill because our internet is up and they're both on the same plan :/
Maybe the company is doing maintainence?
****WARNING: My rant is a bit graphic regarding some wounds on the kitten****
I will be taking the kitten to the pound tomorrow for their opinion. If the kittens wounds can be treated by me at home, then I'll doctor him the best I can. If not, he needs to be put to sleep.
I have NEVER, NEVER, EVER seen anything so gross.
I went to sleep earlier and took the kitten with me. Thankfully, I always insulate myself from animals so I had a blanket between he and I. At some point, he got off the bed and went back under my desk. My daughter came home "OOOH, what's this?" I told her it's a kitten for her. I fell right back to sleep.
She comes into my room sometime later, saying he's sick. He had an irritated butthole when I acquired him- as if he's gotten over a bout of diarrhea. I thought it could be related, so I told her that, went back to sleep.
She woke me again later on, saying he was bleeding a lot.
That woke me up. I looked at him, then looked again. He didn't have those wounds when I last saw him. Near his tail, on either side, are extensive wounds. They were caused by a botfly/botflies that hatched under the skin. (From all appearances, that's what it seems to me.) The wound is almost ONE wound under the skin. And he's infested with so many worms I couldn't begin counting them. I honestly don't know what kind of worm they are. My first guess was pinworms because I first saw them near his butt. But they could be standard housefly maggots in different stages of development.
IF they're housefly magoots, I need to leave them alone. They can clean the wound a million times better than I could try. BUT he has another botfly hole in the exposed tissue beneath his skin (it appears to be empty). In my experience, a botfly only deposits one egg, not a cluster of them.
IF they're pinworms, then that suggests the wound isn't only skin deep, but quite extensive and fatal.
If they're another worm, I'm completely lost because I've had no real experience with them.
Anyhow, when I took him from my daughter and saw how bad it was, I took him to the tub. When I had gotten him from the neighbor, he had white clumps in his fur near the wounds. I thought the kitten had gotten into some foam insulation my hubby likes to use. The stuff was hard and I dismissed it. Those clusters weren't there anymore. so I think they were the maggots keeping the wounds hidden from me.
I placed the little guy directly in the slow stream of water from the spigot several times. He's still infected with the worms. I didn't dare use any soap.
He's not lethargic. He has an appetite which suggests the problem isn't fatal (at this time anyhow). I'm just way over my head. I can handle basic first aid and botfly removal, but THIS is something else entirely. I think I've been wearing a look of disgust for an hour or more now. He doesnt seem to be in any pain though.
After his bath he became a little lethargic for a short time. Could have been low grade shock or something. Right now he's sleeping. I get child support at midnight, so I'll go to Walmart then and get him some formula and a bottle. He's so spunky I expect him to make it. But a bigger part of me is expecting him to die :(
Hope your kitten will be okay, Zhaylin :(
Thanks.
Here he is http://s1114.photobucket.com/albums/...=NewKitten.jpg
As you can see, a housefly already has him in its sights. I'm about to go to the store. I'll try to find some dressing (bandages) for him too.
Anyone know if ImageShack is dead? I tried going there first, but I kept getting "not found" errors.
He is very cute. I hope he lives.
Ugh... I don't know why I always do this. I rarely have any successes.
I bought some antiseptic wash, some paper towels and an ace bandage to help doctor him as well as some triple antibiotic ointment and some Q-tips. Whatever I don't use on him, we can use so I didn't consider it wasteful purchases at the time.
As soon as I got home, I fed him and he ate easily and readily. Then I placed some old but clean clothes on my lap and tried doctoring him. But I don't even know where to start. His injury IS one wound. The infection/maggots have burrowed completely under his fur from one hip to the other where the large, circular wounds are. His flesh it LITERALLY "crawling" from all the maggots. So what do I do? Clean it as best I can, medicate it, wrap it, change it often and leave the maggots there? I took some Q-tips to what looked like dreadfully sensitive areas and he didn't make a fuss except to squirm because I was holding him down lol He's not feverish.
How can he APPEAR to be so healthy? After I washed the area, a slight smell of decay became obvious.
My head is killing me. I've had a pounding headache since my daughter first brought him to me. I've not had a vasovagal reaction which is great, but I wonder if the headache is another manifestation of the same process?
I'm going to go ahead and take the little guy to the pound as soon as it opens. I don't know how to help him and I can't afford a vet. :crying:
Maybe you should try taking him to the vet and asking for suggestions? As long as the vet doesn't treat the poor thing themselves, I don't think they'll charge. Just go in and explain the situation - including the part about you not being able to afford the vet's services. Either they'll take pity on the thing and work something out, or they'll tell you how to treat it yourself, or you'll head back home and wait for the pound to open. No harm in trying.
He is now too far gone. He hasn't relieved himself once and he now has no appetite. I have him wrapped in an old shirt AND the removable leg of some cargo pants and he's still bleeding through. But he's on my lap between my chest and legs sleeping and purring. Right now I'm just trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. He'll be dead before either the vet or pound opens up.
I smothered him :crying: He was in tremendous pain at the end and I couldn't stand to hear him suffer anymore. :crying:
Today is going to be a very bad day.
I can't remember the last time I cried this hard. And my daughter missed the bus, which means she's going to see me upset. I loathe people seeing me in such a state.
She just came in and asked why I looked so sad
Ugh... what a miserable day!
**EDIT**
Oh yeah, how I dispose of the bodies of pets depends on how they died. If it's questionable (an illness), I double bag them and put them in the trash. If it's natural, I leave them out for in hte field other animals. I live in the country so anything buried is dug up.
Well that sucks....
How did he actually get hurt?
Well that was unpleasant to read. You are such a sweet soul Zhaylin.
Zhaylin the exact same thing happened to me rabbit about 2 years ago, it comes on so fast that I didn't even realise.
I had to take her to the vet and get her put down. :/
Thanks everyone
**WARNING: Graphic recount of kittens wound*
It was the strangest thing I have ever seen. He had NO apparent wounds. Nothing seemed off except his butt was red. He was playful and friendly. I took him to bed with me for a nap, my daughtre got home about 2 hours later and everything was okay- he just seemed a little sick and weak to her. About 2 hours after that, she woke me because he was bleeding.
It was as if his skin just dissolved. Both of his hips had huge circular wounds that were festering with maggots. Maggots were coming out of his butt. The circular areas weeped blood but nothing more. But almost hourly, it seemed as if the maggots ate deeper and further. By the end, I could see a sliver of one of his bones. I had him wrapped well and he still bled through. His flesh crawled with the maggots there were so many.
At first, it looked to me as if he had a botfly wound which I have seen and successfully treated before in other animals. Botfly wounds are always amazingly clean. But I always got the maggot out before it developed. Perhaps one hatched under the kittens skin and the wound festered and became infected afterward.
Now, every time I close my eyes I see those maggots. I've never seen that sort of activity before on something alive.
Having seen many wounds and having treated many pets and strays, I've never killed a single one because of the injuries. Usually, I just hold them until they drift away. I should have smothered this guy sooner. I've never seen anything so disturbing.
As an interesting side note, almost as soon as he died, my headache went away.
It would be lovely, if my homework got legs, and walked out of the door right now.
