I think what bothers me most is the concept of forever. The belief that our consciousness never dies, that, in essence, we never die. Life is never-ending. Samsara is never-ending. We're on a ride that we can't get off of.

It's wonderful, yes, and also frightening.

I just start thinking about how bizarre and inexplicable it is that I exist, and I have to carry on through this life until I essentially die.

If you are feeling this way, may I suggest that you seek professional help? Question: How long have you have been feeling this way?

It is both amazing and terrifying. I used to run into people who would say something like "I think I am on my fifth life" and I find that funny. For beings who first became near the beginning of this cycle (say 100 million years after the Big Bang) the number of full lives they could have lead is insane!

You know what is really scary? Go look up "solipsism". Glad I don't believe in it, but, it did freak me out for a day a few years back.

Edit: Sorry. Maybe don't look it up if you're really feeling bothered by existential things right now. Maybe better to just skip that. When I felt really bothered by the above, I spent hours on the phone with a friend, talking about it. That really helped. Maybe you can call a friend who can help you.

I wonder if this is caused by what was going on in the world right now? Or The fact you are experiencing this because we are super aware because of lucid dreaming and other practices? It’s a troubling paradox—
There’s a theory in the field of aesthetics called the uncanny valley. It holds that when something looks almost like a human being—a mannequin or humanlike robot—it creates revulsion in the observer, because the appearance is so close to human, yet just off enough to evoke a feeling of uncanniness, of something that is both familiar and alien. is that what you feel like?

I used to get it a lot when I going through highschool and University. I was severely depressed at the time though. I am not sure if I was depressed because how weird it is to actually be conscious, or if being depressed made me more actutely aware of the existential dread.

It does get less severe with time. My advice would be to dwell on it when you can and are safe, as opposed to trying to bottle it up and ignoring it. May take a lot of time to process though, just be patient with yourself.

They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

It actually feels like fall here for the past few days. Took a walk in the woods and I found some Spring Oyster mushrooms.

Thanks for all the advice guys, it's very comforting to know that I'm not the only one who's experienced it.

Thankfully, I've been feeling progressively back to my normal self over the past week. I've slowly just been improving each day, feeling more and more 'human' again. It's so funny to think that our 'normal' state of consciousness is to be blinded by the perplexity of our existence.

For some reason or another, (and from what I've read about online as well, this seems to be a relatively common occurrence) it seems to just go away with time.

It's weird, I mean, when I'm in the middle of feeling scared about existing, it's like I can barely think about it or it just freaks me out, but now, I can focus on the fact that I exist and intentionally try and 'phase into it', but it doesn't produce the same effect. It definitely still makes me uncomfortable thinking about it now, but it doesn't make me feel acutely panicky. It's almost like there's some sort of hard gate that fluctuates between open and closing (maybe based on factors such as sleep, diet, relationships, productiveness, etc) that determines how vulnerable you are to feelings of anxiety about your existence. Quite bizarre.

Rant: My wife's car's AC was broken so we dropped it off at the shop. They said $600-! I agreed and they called me today and said a part was needed and it would be $1,100. I told them No Way and took the car back.
Rave: We got in the car and started it up and the AC was suddenly working again!!!

Basically where the bottom-side of a person's foot has moderate to high pain or tenderness and generally involves inflammation, if I recall correctly.

Edit: Oh maybe some extra info, humans are plantigrade animals, that is to say that humans walk on the whole of the soles of their feet. Therefore plantar is referring to the sole, the underside of a person's foot. The suffix -itis typically refers to inflammation or infection, as I recall. And fascia sort of literally means "face", so plantar fasciitis is referring to the face of the foot in this context, i.e. the underside.

Yes, what Dark said. Basically, cheap new dress shoes + low arch + on my feet all day = plantar faciitis. It's annoying because it lasts weeks or months even.

I got some good inserts though and that is helping.

I had a pretty good week at work. Been feeling much better in general as well.

I've taken an ADO (Allocated Day Off) for Friday this week, and then the following Monday is a public holiday (Queen's Birthday) so I've got two four day work weeks and a four day weekend lined up

Thank you for the correction/extra info.

The thing with the AC makes me think that it may have been an issue with dirty/poor contacts and maybe they took some off, didn't bother checking if they were an issue first and assumed it was dead and then put it all back together, making them have better contact again. Who knows without actually looking, but it just wouldn't surprise me if it had been something that simple.

You are so good, Dark. Of course you would give them the benefit of the doubt. I, on the other hand, would be thinking the mechanic was trying to rip you off. Mechanics don't exactly have a reputation for honesty...

Well, I generally agree that many mechanics don't really try to problem-solve the actual issues and just skip to replacing the entire "whatever" that is faulty but at the same time I don't want to say that all mechanics are like that, because it's the same with every profession; there are just many people who don't care for what they do despite the fact they are "professionals" in that area. On one hand, it's annoying and doesn't paint a great picture for the world, and on the other hand it's also understandable since more effort is rarely well rewarded in society at large, anyway.
