Floatation Tank Plans

Ok here are the updated diagrams.

Ignore the weird angle on the right side of the tank part. Just didn't realise until I finished it lol
Was focusing too much.

The room area on the right is going to be done last, maybe not straight away either.
It's just for ease of getting in to the tank naked. So I don't have to get in with a towel and then hang it up inside the tank. But I'll have to do that for a while at first.

It will also have a seat there so I can sit for a while between long sessions.

I will be trying to order all the wood on Monday. Since I work on the weekends and the timber yard is probably shut anyway.

This is an exaggerated cross-section picture of how the base is going to be constructed.

Very cool. Now I kinda want one. Except, I'd rather just have a hot tub.

Sweet idea man. I never understood if someone was totally sense deprived how they could get out of the tank and not get stuck in there forever. Oh and if its gonna be in your backyard, make sure no one goes skinny dipping in that behind your back :lol:

Oh I also remember Joe Rogan gave away one of his old floatation tanks for free a couple years ago.. To bad I wasnt aware of such a contest. These videos show his old one and new one. Plus it shows some good info

Well, you're still aware. And your body clock can tell you when you usually get out, if you do it enough at a regular length of time.
Funny story actually....
When I went to try one out at a float center/massage place, the guy there had gone out to lunch while I was in the tank.
He thought someone else was going to turn the music on to let me know it was time to get out. But I guess they forgot to.
So he came back and assumed I'd gotten out.... 3 hours later he realised I was still in there haha
I didn't even realise.
I knew it was longer than the other couple of times, but not that long lol

Yeah I was annoyed I missed that competition too, although I'm in Aus, so don't think I could have won it anyway.

Do they change the water/sterilize the tanks every time someone uses one?

They don't change the water, coz it's a fair bit, plus at least 800 pounds of salt.
But yeah, it's sterilised, due to the high amount of salt and filtering.
I think it has to be filtered for at least an hour between people, and it should run through at least 3 times in that hour.

Some tanks also have UV and/or ozone sterilisation. But tbh I think it's unnecessary.

Bleh. That's like floating around in someone else's amnion. Oh well at least you'll have your own now.

Well, that's what pools and spa's are like too I spose.

People are a bit too paranoid these days. Including myself.
But water germs don't bother me, just I like pools/spas/ocean etc, too much to care I suppose lol

I love water too...and I have no problem with pools, spas, etc. But when someone goes into a floatation tank, and like, has a psychedelic experience or something...then those juices are theirs...I don't really want to mix with those juices. Maybe it's more of an energy thing than a germs thing. But salt is great at neutralizing energies so it's all good.

I've only been in 3 or 4 times, and didn't have any drugs. I think Rogan smokes weed every time he goes in. I'll get there though hopefully hehe

Since I'm here:

I had some trouble with the sleeper screw bolts. The store doesn't sell stainless steel, only zinc and galvanised (which is just a different way to coat it in zinc).
I made do with zinc coated, might just have to replace them in a few years.

It's getting dark here early still, so I haven't done much. And had to go out today as well.
But I will finish putting the sleepers together tomorrow and go buy neoprene rubber, supports, insulation and vinyl liner tomorrow.

Ok so.... When I started building this there was fairly good weather.
Now it has turned pretty shit for the past 2 weeks or something.

I've been doing it on the good days though. But can't really get much done.

I put a tarpaulin underneath the wood, and today I got an EPDM (special rubber) liner.
But I was about to put it in and I realised that the tarpaulin is not even keeping the fucking water off the inside!

Seriously what the hell? Isn't that what they're for? Keeping water off things?
It's just soaking through it. Which would be very bad if I put insulation on top of it, coz
it would just get mouldy as hell.

So I've raised it off the ground a bit, so it can dry out underneath. Then I'm going to have to figure
out how to keep the water from getting under it.

I'm thinking to seal it around the bottom with that foam or epoxy stuff. Then put aluminium on the inside
then put the insulation and liner on top of the aluminium. I'm thinking that should be pretty water proof.


I'm just gonna put my costs so far:
Wood for bottom (structural wood) - ~$90
Support wood - ~$40
EPDM Liner - ~$138
Screws etc. - ~$5
Tarpaulin - Free from shed lol But if anyone builds one of these tanks, don't use it. Fucking useless, but I won't remove it coz it's more work than it's worth.

I'll point out where most of this stuff is on pictures, but it's covered with a tarpaulin atm (double layered! better fucking work....).

Alright.

Here are some pics.

I bought some builders film to cover the bottom and sides.
And the insulation went on top of that.
Then the liner went on top of the insulation.

Then I put water in it to push the insulation down a bit and so that I could pull the pond liner straight.
And then put 14cm wide planks of wood on top of the bottom sleepers to hold the builders film down.

I also put vertical poles on the side to hold the upper planks on
and also hold the pond liner between them and the upper planks.
Which you can see better here.
And emptied water coz it was just getting dirt and leaves etc in it lol

Yeah, tarpaulin might or might not be waterproof, depends what kind. Those woven plastic strip ones are crap. Looks like you got the right stuff under it now.
