I went on the most fantastic hike the other day.







If you want to know what happens to this place during a thunderstorm, watch my video to the end. That was the best part of the whole day. (Also to really see the details you might want to go to the Youtube page and watch it full screen.) Seriously, this was one of the coolest places I've been to.

I swear to god Two Shadows, you're really just hiking around Mars and not telling us. Beautiful photos.

My life is fairly complete

These two cats.



The one on the top always looks so evil and psychotic, it's like she's staring into your soul. The one on the bottom is just horny lol. You can't really pet her at all because if you do for more than a second or two she starts presenting herself. A friend of mine is keeping them at his apartment right now for another friend.

haha! one of my cats does that too. Then she starts squirming in ecstasy if you keep patting her.



This picture It looks like a Salvador Dali painting down the bottom. Extremely cool.
Those lines must be from water rushing through there over millions of years, looks incredible.
I need to go to Arizona one day....

There were a whole bunch of tadpole shrimp at the Wave. Plus I discovered clam shrimp for the first time.

There's a mini path that leads to a ledge enclosed by trees with a great view of the river. One of my favorite spots. EDIT: This isn't is, actually, but I'm too lazy to add the other photo.

I was wondering what those were twoshadows. Tadpole shrimp ey....
They remind me of trilobites.

Alucinor - Either the scale of that plant is deceiving or that bee is enormous!

Also Boxelder bug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ?
Looks the same. Although I can't see the details of them in your photo.

Yeah, according to Wikipedia they are considered "living fossils" and go back all the way to the Triassic. Pretty cool.

Also it's so amazing that they live their whole life cycle in those desert puddles and their eggs can lay dried and dormant for years.

They're in the order Hemiptera if that helps. I saw these all the time in North Carolina but I never looked up the species.

Yeah, I think they're the Boxelder bugs that Tommo was talking about. There were hundreds of them!

Edit: Nope! Nevermind, they're called Jadera bugs. I googled "Jadera" and there's a picture that looks almost exactly like the one I took-- a pile of therm swarming a tree.

It could be nymphs of either based on your picture. Boxelder also congregate on trees like that.
