Thread: How Sarcastic Are You?

Gee willikers, this sure is a pretty cool thread.

not sure if sarcasm

Sarcasm on the internet? Rarely but on some few choosen occasions.
In real life? Currently not so much because I'm in a phase of rare human contact. But when I have contact with other people I am sometimes ridiculously sarcastic, it's even like a reflex most of the times. And it can become troublesome sometimes if I don't keep it willingly at bay.
Not to mention even my thoughts are sarcastic most of the time, and they aren't limited to the people around me.
So well, I can very well say I eat and breathe sarcasm.
Likewise I usually pick up on sarcasm very fast.

What a strange question. In real life I don't talk to people much, but when I do I use sarcasm a bit, maybe a slightly higher % of sarcasm than most people do. It's just automatic, I don't try to. In fact I might try not to because I get the feeling it usually comes across as mean, even when I'm just trying to be funny. Or people laugh but it's just awkward laughter and then I feel bad.

I'm more sarcastic in RL because it doesn't take me three hours to write my bloody response. Plus all the spelling mistakes and so on. Plus I get to laugh at them in person too

Mostly I use sarcasm cause people annoy me.

I want to slap people who are sarcastic all the time and think it's the "coolest thing ever". They seem/are so heartless...
I have my sarcastic moments, but it's usually, clearly in jest.

Always, I don't think I've had a conversation with someone without being sarcastic, I usually do it automatically lol

I don't get all the hype about sarcasm. Man up and say what you REALLY think. Honest, plain interaction is so much simpler (call me stupid for not being able to keep up, I don't care).

I do, just in a "go fuck yourself" kind of way.

Nah, most of the time, I'm just messing around with people. I don't mean anything I say, unless someone really pisses me off.

The problem is otherwise I'm usually completely dry, I think even my sarcasm often gets taken seriously by people who don't really know me lol

yeah I've had that happen a few times. But eh, screw them.

I'm not extremly sarcastic but my twin sister is sarcastic all the time. Its become like an automatic reaction for her and its funny when she forgets that she is even doing it. I find it sort of annoying when people use to much cuz it can be sort of disrespectfull but its all good if everyone knows your just joking.

I do have the tendency, but as of late I stifle this natural talent, as it tends to piss people off more than accomplish anything, and I am universally hated as it is.

Completely agreed.
I think people use it so if you call them out on something they can be like "I was just joking! jeez...."
And it pisses me off tbh.

It's like passive aggressiveness. Most of the time anyway.

I'm basically never sarcastic because I just don't think about being sarcastic. I just have conversations, and listen to people, not think about what I'm going to say or whatever.
Hard to explain.

I only use sarcasm when I really don't give a fuck what the person is talking about and don't like the person at all.

When my youngest daughter was 3 years old, she could say "sartastic"- that's how often I use it But it's never in a mean way.
"Where are you going, mom?"
"To the moon" was my favorite reply back then.

"Are you making lunch, mom?"
"Nope, I'm going to let you starve to death." (I fixed lunch every day- why ask lol)

I tend to use it in response of obvious or silly questions- not passive/aggressively or out of anger.

I'm extremely sarcastic, in general, but only toward those who know me well.

On the internet, I'm not really sarcastic because words are much too easily misunderstood without making things more difficult.

this sums it up for me

I was literally raised with sarcasm as a second language. I didn't have to have "explained" to me what sarcasm was by my mom, since somehow it's inherently part of our family tree. It's ingrained in each and every branch of the family tree, from my great grandparents all the way down to my cousins and myself.

To my family, being sarcastic is seen as humorous, common, or even a sign of affection. It's not always perceived as such with acquaintances, so there are occasionally communication errors. When I am being sarcastic with non-friends, it comes of as caustic even though it's actually appreciative in our "family culture."

A typical conversation in my family often occurs in a deadpan manner, and would follow as so.

"Anything exciting happen today?"
"Oh, definitely. That's why I'm SOOOO upbeat."
*Changes channel to a food show.*
"PLEASE, leave this on, and turn it up. I love watching barely-famous people shove their faces with massive slabs of meat dripping with goopy sauces. The HD makes it so much more visually appealing."

If anyone knows April from Parks and Recreation: That's our family.

My family is very sarcastic, but the funny thing is that my older sister doesn't get it sometimes.

We have a sign on our garage door from the house that says "NATIONAL SARCASM SOCIETY: Like we need your help."

When my dad told my mom about the whole incident with Jim Jones and the Koolaid, all she said was "well, that improved the gene pool." and walked away

When I went to philmont (a big scout ranch in northeast New Mexico) our ranger did NOT get sarcasm at all. Unfortunately, staff there is very sarcastic, so he learned that the different shades of green on a map are how steep the terrain is, instead of the topo lines. We ended up messing with him. We did it in good fun and maybe teach him a thing or two about being sarcastic.
