      New Guitar

Alright, so my parents were cheap and bought me a shitty first act guitar a few months back...7 or so actually.Well, they've decided to buy a new one..because of my consistant begging and the fact that I've actually gotten decent.I learned just about everything possible to play on the damn thing, but I hate it because of the tone and it's a rather rough compared to a few strats I've played.

Anyway, I've come down to either a Fender Standard Strat or a Fender Fat Strat(both mex's)The difference mainly being the pickups (3 single coils standard, 2 single coils and 1 humbucker fat strat)And I've been trying to decide between the two, personally I think the humbucker should allow more versatility, but then again, I like the twangy sound from the single coils, and versatility isn't a *huge* factor, I want some flexibility, but in the end I just want what will sound best for the type of music I play, Which is stuff like..thrice, rufio, blink, sum41, green day, the exies, NOFX, Rancid and so on and so forth, basically anything rock, or punk...or pop punk or whatever the hell you wanna call it.

So I'm curious to know what you musically educated people(at least to some extent) think I should do.Also, I'd like to know what type of gear all the guitarists here play on. I got a rouge 120 watt amp..cause it was cheap and loud, which, imo, is all that really matters.

Oh, and the avatar isn't mine, it's my friend's setup, lucky him.

I used to play the guitar aswell, not anymore though. I used Ibanez and I really liked them, I played metal music though (of various kinds). Can't really help you on this one, I'm personally not much of the fenders, but even on Ibanez I don't know shit anymore..not that I ever did know so much about the technical part of it all

And lol, cheap and loud amp..whatever happened to sound quality I know its largely up to your guitar but I found it did make a difference, but I was mostly about loud too

Anyway, good luck with picking the right guitar and with developing your skills

Well i'm a self-taught player, I learnt on an ol acoustic of dad's before getting a good acoustic and finally an entry level squier strat. I don't play as much as I should anymore, maybe I should be taking lessons. I haven't go much of an idea about all that technical stuff, but I'd say for what you want it for just go for a no-bones fender strat... they're good, reliable, plus you can get pretty decent deals on em and all... well that's as far as my knowledge goes.

Mmm my dream guitar would be a juicy sweet Gibson.... E345 or something along those lines... **drools** I used to sit on the Gibson website for hours daydreaming about those guitars... oh god how I want one. I reckon that's the first thing i'd get if i won the lottery.... but those Gibsons are much more of a blues guitar, so not really something you would want.

a Fender Standard Strat or a Fender Fat Strat...

Standard. They are better to play on. The Fats are not much better. The standard has a better feel to it especially if you are getting a second, more expensive guitar.

I would go with a custom made Ibanez though. Gibson can't compare in some things like Ibanez can.

I hate Green Day, but I like NOFX.

So many variables, so little knowledge.

My first electric was a gift, an epiphone junior model. It's not bad at all. It's got a good kick, and I feel it sounds better than even the more expensive models I've tested at different stores.
