Ridley Scott may be a writer but he wasn't actually the writer for Alien. That would be Dad O'Bannon who wrote every character gender neutral. As far as I can tell the only gender he had in mind was actually for the guy in the chestburster scene, because female victimisation by a monster was a cliché, and he wanted to threaten the male viewers for once.

To be clear I wasn't trying to put women down I just think these days are kind of silly and that all people should be celebrated all the time.

This is totally true. They make a holiday for EVERYthing these days.

However, what makes it hard though, is when [google, for example] celebrates international womens' day, then a woman starts a thread here about it, then a few men make negative statements about it in the very same thread (not you).

I'm not even really all that liberated in the extreme sense. I just kinda feel bad for Meeps for starting the thread, then having to go to class, then eventually coming back and seeing what happened to it.
