Thread: Why Obama Will Win

The way that you elect a leader and then elect parliament two years later, regularly of a different party, resulting in the whole government becoming impotent.

Electing the 'leader' is rare in Europe. Instead you just vote for a member of parliament, and generally the largest party will be able to form a government; the president or prime minister attains their position as a by product. That way the governing party actually gets to govern efficiently.

Yeah, it's really amazing who gets elected, I honestly don't think most people know who they're voting for over here lol.

I know. I was being a bit sarcastic. Gandhi never got one; he was nominated 5 times. Lise Meitner lost hers to some silly chemists, even though they published HER work... (Although she got an element, so I guess she's laughing. Or she's dead. One of those two.)

FUN FACT: Obama has fired more cruise missiles and had more people killed than all other Nobel Peace Prize recipients COMBINED!

No idea who the guy is but what he says about a 'significant discrepancy' between exit polls and election results being impossible is patently untrue, exit polls can be and famously have been wide of the mark for all kinds of legitimate reasons. So why is he saying otherwise?

Probably because he was personally asked by a congressman to rig the voting machines....

Not sure about "everywhere," but most of the big states have. You can also request a paper ballot, although the voting machines print a paper version of the ballot as a backup.

Wouldn't they be able to see whether there was a discrepancy then? Also, if it prints it out as well, why have a machine at all?

Because this way you can count it instantly; the paper slips are for backup. We like to know our results immediately instead of waiting until the next day.

I don't see the point in rushing to get stuff done or doing it as fast as possible. Unless, it's like a life or death situation

If you've ever watched CNN during an election night, numbers not coming in fast enough ARE a life or death situation. Those people are absolutely insane.

If we can't 'google' the election results the following morning, it's not fast enough. Because Americans are terrible people.

The sad sad bi-product of a two party system...Obama will get re-elected simply because he's a democrat...and being a democrat is still the "cool" thing to be. Im not saying all dems and dems for that reason, but I think its safe to say a large amount of people who know nothing about politics will vote dem simply for this reason. And of course, Obama's speaking skills.

It will be interesting to see if the political landscape changes at all the next election cycle.

Well without knowing how far off the numbers were in this case, or what a standard deviation would be, or what sort of abnormally large but still legitimate deviations there have been, I'm not sure how to give you a better one.

It is an answer though; since having been expressly asked to rig the votes, he is probably more likely to believe a large discrepancy from polling data is an indicator that the vote has indeed been rigged and that is probably at least part of why he said as much.
