What do I do? My mom was just sick and now I am afraid I might be getting sick too. Is there a magic trick to make it go away or shorten the duration? I don't have time for a cold and I really don't want one.

I'll just tell you what I tell myself when I feel a cold coming. Keep clean and healthy. Don't eat anything that won't help your immune system. Try that vitamin c drink Airborne stuff. I've been able to kill off colds before they got bad.
My drama teacher said she packs down copious amounts of vitamin c, but I completely forgot the number.
Visit the doctor? Eat some meds? Medicine usually helps me to speed up the healing process by a lot.
Wayfarer beat me to it, but try this stuff:

It might depend a lot on placebo, but it's probably the closest thing you'll get to a magic anti-cold pill. You are supposes to take it as soon as you first notice the symptoms, though.
omg yes airborne is so good and works fast xD the taste isn't the best thing but it's definitely bearable (and a lot better than most medicine that's put in water )
Is airborne preventative? There's a drug that you can get in Costco I believe, or in drug stores in Canada, or order on Amazon, called Cold FX

It works by boosting your immune system and has been proven to drastically decrease the duration of colds (by 30% or so), and to have a 57% success rate or something like that of preventing them all together. It's always worked really well for me, I've never had a cold while on it that lasted longer than 3 days, and a few times have felt a cold coming on that just stopped.
The only time it didn't work was last time, but there were some other reasons I think my immune system was crap at that time.
As for symptoms themselves, there's stuff called "Advil - Cold & Sinus" that I've only seen sold in Canada. I tried buying something similar ("Advil - [something else]") in the US but it didn't work at all. The Cold & Sinus one works like magic, on me at least. It completely stops congestion and cures the headache. The only side-effect I experience noticeably is that my sinuses hurt a little. It probably isn't very good for you, but in emergencies, it really does get rid of cold symptoms better than anything else I've tried.
You feel me coming?.....Oh dear!
Hey, guys, I actually didn't get a cold, the initial symptoms disappeared. I knew that if I posted a thread about it, it might go away, and it worked! Thanks guys.
Glad to hear it!
