How Musical Are You?
This was an interesting test a friend of mine sent me:
How Musical Are You? | Dig Music
You have to register, but it doesn't take long. The test will probably take about 25 mins or so.
My Results:
Enthusiasm for Music: 94%
Musical Perception: 99%
Emotional Connection: 70%
Social Creativity: 78%
Musical Curiosity: 94%
Group the Music: 75% matched in each row.
Match the Beat: 14/18
Tap the Beat: 4 mediums out of 9 (though I got a little too jumpy on some of them)
Melody Memory: 9/12

Thanks for the link, it was fun. :) But these types of tests never seem to work right for me. I took it and my results are terrible. It gets a lot of facts about me wrong too. I'll posts my results anyway. Sorry if I seem irritated here, I guess I am a little.
Enthusiasm for music - 28%
This says music isn't very important to me, but that isn't true. I think it's incredible and listen to it when convenient, just not 24/7.
Musical perception - 76%
Emotional connection - 70%
Medium, hmmm... When I was 13-15 I refused to listen to music because I hated how it influenced my emotions too much. I'll often use music to put myself in certain moods. It definitely affects my emotions strongly, so it seems I should have scored higher here.
Social Creativity - 72%
This says I'm likely to participate in group music activities, which isn't true at all. I consider music personal for some reason and I'll never do anything like that with people around.
Musical Curiosity - 9%
Okay, this is fair. Music from unfamiliar genres usually bores me. But when I do find something different that I like I'll obsess over it.
Group the music - 75% in two rows, 50% in the other two
This is kind of BS because I was looking for classical in one of the rows, while there was no classical, so that kind of screwed me over.
Match the Beat - 14/18 correct
I'm not sure if I was doing this one right or not. I assumed that only the spacing between beats mattered, but near the end I considered that the timing itself did.
Tap to the Beat - 5 high, 4 medium
I was tapping it perfectly as I was perceiving it, which seemed pretty clearly. Maybe my mind is just perceiving it wrongly.
Melody memory - 7/12 wrong
lol, okay. I'm great at remembering song melodies once I've heard them a few times. I think the problem is that the notes were kind of all over the place, there wasn't much of a pattern near the ends of the clips, so by the end I forgot how the beginning was. It wasn't that I couldn't tell the difference between the first and second clips, it's that I honestly didn't remember the first clip by the time the second played.

ENTHUSIASM FOR MUSIC
92%

EMOTIONAL CONNECTION
82%
Yeah im emotional
SOCIAL CREATIVITY
67%
Me and social? Ahahaha!
MUSICAL CURIOSITY
71%
Whatever...
Group the Music - One wrong per group
Match the Beat - One Wrong
Tap the Beat - ~60% medium 40% high
WTF is this a keyboard for tapping BPM? Its more accurate to do it with a cucumber! I could easily play them all right in my guitar
Melody Memory - 3 Wrong
Wasn't paying too much attention,my bad!

I would consider myself a good musician, being in a band and currently working on an album. But I guess I was wrong.
Enthusiasm for Music: 87%
Musical Perception: 99%
Emotional Connection: 100%
Social Creativity: 88%
Musical Curiosity: 59%
I'm not sure how you guys scored yourself based on the test results though. All my genres are grouped in pairs so I have 2 rock, 2 hip-hop; 2 jazz, 2 rock; 2 jazz, 2 pop and 2 hip-hop, 2 pop. I don't listen to 3 of those genres.
I got 11/18 on match the beat, which was also hard because once the counter started the song either sounded off or it didn't and a lot of the shit they played sounded off anyways.
I scored 5 high, 3 medium and 1 low on tap the beat
I got 10/12 on match the melody
-
I scored terrible with no music background.

Enthusiasm for music: 76%
I think I'm more enthusiastic, but I guess I like to keep things in proportion.
Musical perception: 94%
Emotional connection: 89%
Social creativity: 47%
It actually took my a long time in my life to realize that music even *was* a social thing. I always thought it was just for me, haha. I'm starting to think differently now.
Musical curiosity: 90%
Group the genres: a scrambled mess
stupid test. Genres are not absolute; and even if they were pop isn't a genre. I kept thinking one of the lines was supposed to be 'salsa' or something.
Match the beat: 15/18
Tap to the beat: 5 high, 4 medium
Melody memory: 11/12

cool test. but i didn't like most of the tests... like the beat one? all the "beats" were in-time with the music, just placed at different spots. as a drummer, sometimes manipulating the beat like that is intentional. So I messed up some of those because of that interpretation.
Also, I hate "taping" a tempo. My metronome has that option, but I can never tap consistently with my finger. Just feels award. Give me a drum stick and I'd be fine.
Headphones would have helped too, but my headphone jack doesn't work recognize headphones anymore. :(

Social creativity... would that be like improvised sessions with other musicians? Because I feel that's one of my strong points as a drummer. I've jammed with a lot of people, and people often tell me how locked in we are even on first jam sessions. Like, spontaneously pausing at the exact same time, dropping volume together, shifting momentum together, etc.

Looks about right

Didn't do so well with the genre grouping thing, but I did better with the melody memory than I though. Thought I messed that right up, but I only got two wrong.

I think the main problem here is that it was over many different types of music and wasn't just about and single style or instrument. I really didn't see a problem with the match the beat but then again I do use this mac for recording and editing music.
I kinda feel like they gave me more then I should have got though because I got a six wrong with match the beat, but I listen to Buckethead,Her Words Kill and Fall of Troy and other Post-Hardcore as inspirations and they Intentionally make "beats not match" but it really works. Just hard for some people to follow.
