REVEALED! Secrets to Becoming a DV Staff Member [DBZ EDITION]
Hi. I'm Jeff777. Many have raised questions to me in the past about what it took to become a staff member and what all comes along with the territory. I wrote a guide about it long ago but it's now buried within the many pages of DV. So, I decided to write a simpler one in DBZ format.
In it, I explain what kind of comes with the territory (not all, just tidbits) as well as how to attain staff positions on a site with over 17,000 members, such as this one. I tell you how you can easily get to the global moderator position all the way up to administrator of this site.
Why should you listen to me? Who am I to tell you how to do it? Because I've achieved every..position.. on this site save for dream guide.
Banter aside, here's the fun disclaimer!! :D
Below is a written reflection on how I personally went from member to moderator to admin. One will have to be a member in good standing before any staff considerations. Guarantees not promised. Results may vary.
If you can't read some of the captions below, I've detailed them all in the following spoiler.
Spoiler for Captions:
How do you become a powerful human or even a super saiyan?
This is the chatroom. This is one way you begin to build a name for yourself. Other famous fighters and super saiyans hang out here. Having conversations (training, battles) with them here will begin to make an impression on them. You also begin to prove your loyalty, which is what the team is looking for. This path of making a name for yourself generally leads to that of a chat mod or global moderator.
How do I become a Super saiyan 1?
Teaching others and answering questions before other super saiyans in the on-topic sections on a regular basis (and knowing what you're actually talking about), will get your name passed around among the other super saiyans. Trust me. It will.
How do I become a super saiyan 3?
Members don't transform into an SSJ3 easily.. infact, sometimes people have to "train" in the chat and off-topic areas for years before they turn into an SSJ3. So be patient. To help cut down on the time, help the other SSJ3's do their jobs more effectively. If you find threads that deserve their attention, point it out to them in a friendly PM. Also, be somewhat political in nature (if you don't know what I'm talking about, watch politicians speak on youtube when addressing issues) with your posting style. Being unbiased in forum related matters is always seen as a pre-requisite for all SSJ3's. You will need to establish a large network of friends.. mostly in the off-topic sections since more SSJ3's are breeded from off-topic. Some, if not most of these friends will need to be SSJ3's or SSJ4's themselves. So get to know them, personally. Flirt, conversate etc. Involve yourself as much as they will let you without you becoming overbearring. Understand your current limits, and respect those limitations.
NO PSEUDO-MODDING. CAN HAVE ADVERSE EFFECTS.
Start addictive threads in off-topic.. rally the community behind debates.. it all comes down to high powered friendships and the forum knowing WHO. YOU. ARE.
How do I become super saiyan 4?
The trend is that SSJ4's are not created out of "want" but rather out of "need." There have probably been 10 or less SSJ4's throughout the entire history of DV's existence. To become an SSJ4, you have to be a top flight SSJ3. Above all, LOYAL to your job and DV, unbiased, mature poster. Being a crowd favorite is a must. If you're being considered.. the chat regs know you, the forum knows you.. and chances are you've made an impeccable name for yourself after your number of years being here. The other SSJ4's will convene and discuss you (typically SSJ3's become SSJ4's. Rarely are lower SSJ levels or humans chosen), then Shenlong the dragon himself will be summoned to have a say in the matter. This is generally the only one he chooses to have a say in. If everything checks out.. you'll soon be welcomed to the most powerful position you could ever attain on DV. You've reached the top of the ladder. Congratulations. Now put some chapstick on your chaffed lips. ;-)
Wait hold on....remember that time Invader promoted Merro to Admin for like 2 minutes? That was awesome.

I thought about being a mod once but I decided I didn't want to. I prefer being a mad king.

In Danish, "mad" means "food". Think about that. Food king.

Too much work. I'd do if you got paid. I'm still pissed that I wasn't automatically allowed in to the private section after my 5 years membership though. IT'S ALL LIES!

I would be pissed but I broke my fuck-giving machine.

Good one tommo....I think the next time someone complains about staff not doing their jobs, I'll mention how much they get paid to do it.

Don't any of you miss being just a reg? I mean, you have the power to ban, but we have the power to be dicks. Yall can't cut up like the rest of us because you have something to lose, and that doesn't seem very fun at all.

Miss being a reg? Good question. Although it's been too long for me to remember :P

A regular forum member? We are all regular forum members.
You learn a lot about Lucid Dreaming being on Staff. :)

If I've learned anything from Dreamviews, it's that having the right friendships shortcuts you to moderator faster and easier than any other method. I can't tell you how many times I've seen members become mods where I just think "....why?".
Of course, I think Dreamviews has become a lot more credible with moderator promotions in recent years. But it was pretty bad a few years ago.

I agree with you that the buddy system sometimes supersedes things, but usually it's because of some rare "oh shit, x, y, z just left right now!" scenario. Staff exodus being one of them. When staff was originally put together, a lot of it was just one big popularity contest, and I think some of that is still around, but it's more in a respectable manner. Not just "they're cool", but "they're everywhere around the forums and haven't fucked up" sort of thing.
If you really look at it....the majority of the staff have been a bunch of stand outs...originators...and just overall bro's to everyone. There are some exception to those rules, and those people don't usually last long. I mean look at the community hall rankings....go to the rankings and look at the first two pages. Everyone on those pages, have, been staff, are staff, were, will be staff, should be/have been staff. As long as they don't fuck up. I don't know where I'm going with this...because the beer is taking over...but it's good to see you make a decent post bro, and I hope I made my point.

I did just that, and WHAT THE HELL!???? haha Clairity? She hasn't been here for YEARS!
How is she still top ranked? lol
That's hilarious.

Clairity was last seen July of this year and her post count is about the same as yours, Tommo.
Makes me think I should write more dreams in my DJ. Dreams are like cash around here. :-?
Some people see being a staffmember as work, and that's understandable, but effective staff will be the ones who are already posting actively and find the extra activity is just a simple way to be a part of the community.
If it seems like unpaid work then it won't be fun and the user will burn out. No one wants a staffmember like that.

Ontopic posts value>off topic posts. She's got 8K posts, and I'm guessing the majority of them are in on topic. I assume points are also given to thread starters per post as long as it's not the OP posting. And lets not forget the all powerful dream journal....if you kept one long enough to have it grandfathered and post in the new style, you have a great chance of easily making it to the top. I'm pretty sure most of my points come from my old DJ (probably was around 1-2k posts) and my current one (445 entries).
I would have replied sooner, but I've been lurking hard! Man I found some great old threads.

Yeah, she did come back VERY briefly. But she left before the point system was even implemented. I guess it's a combination of her not actually spending any points, and obviously being ridiculously active while she was here.

I figured that too. I remember the hug thread, which would explain a lot. Thing was like a 1000 pages lol
I'm pretty regretful I didn't post enough in my DJ to have it grandfathered. Ah well....
