Where did the "badum tiss" come from?

You know how when comedians make a joke, then someone does that drum thing that's like "badum tiss?" I was wondering... does anyone know the history of this? Who used it first and where did it start? I can't seem to find any information about it.

From my own Google searching, people seem to say it originated with Vaudeville acts at some point. Nothing official though.

Hm. Well, thanks for looking guys. I feel like its been around forever, probably not important enough to be documented, though. I think Vaudeville acts is a good assumption.

      Hi tempUserName

What do you mean by "yfw"?

      I looked it up here:

What does YFW mean? - YFW Definition - Meaning of YFW - InternetSlang.com

but maybe you were meaning something different.
