      Isolation Tank Question

Hi everyone, I had a quick question about an isolation tank. I was wondering if the pump should be running while you are in the tank or is the pump just used to clean the tank in between sessions?

I am planning on building one either next weekend or the following weekend and wasn't sure about this. It is fairly difficult to find information on them so I thought some one who has experienced one would be able to help me out. Thank you in advance.

I don't think that the pump should be running when you are floating. I spent two hours in an isolation tank and I can't remember any pumping sounds.

Just take care that you have a good fresh air supply

Okay, I was thinking the same thing. It would definitely make noise and I'd also imagine you could feel the current if it was running.

I am going to be building mine in the basement. The house use to be a bar pre 1930s and there is an old cooler that the kegs were stored in. The walls are insulated very well (5 1/4" thick) which will be good for sound proofing and the only light that comes through is from the serving windows. I plan on making a top that will sit below the serving windows which will fold down when I am inside. I am pretty sure the room isn't air tight enough to worry about ventilation but I will have a better idea when I begin building it. After ordering all of the parts it is looking like I will be able to build the tank for under $350. I am getting the salt for free which helps keep the cost down

How was your experience in the float tank?

This sounds interesting. Once you build the tank are you going to post pictures some where?

Yes, I am planning on starting a thread to document the build with pictures encase any one wants to build on in the future.

My plan is to use the tank as an aid for WILDing. I've heard a lot of good things about float tanks and I can't help but to think that people are experiencing feelings similar to a dream transition/lucid dream state when they talk about their "hallucinations". I am pretty confident I will be able to achieve the hallucination state and I am interested to see how much it feels like WILDing/lucid dreaming.

At the very least I will make myself a nice relaxing spa so what is there to lose

For me it was less than I expected.
Maybe because I couldn't let go. I'm quite tense and I could not relax my neck.
Nevertheless it felt good and after I left the tank I was comparably relaxed but there was no drifting into other realities and stuff like that. But I think other people will have more intense results.

A further reason might be the fact that I had to go quite far and it was quite expensive. So I lay in the tank thinking all the time: "It was so expensive and I had to go so far. When will the psychedelic images appear?!" Maybe that's not the best mindset for floating. You will not have problems like that with your own tank.

They sound interesting, but floating naked in something that looks like a giant toilet from the future just doesn't sound fun to me. I'd rather just grow shrooms.
