      Building of my Flotation Tank

Hello every one! Just wanted to share the progress of my flotation tank. I decided a couple weeks ago I would be building one in my basement. Here is a quick background story before I jump into the pictures. My basement use to be a bar prior to the prohibition. To store the kegs for the bar there was a walk in cooler that was built. This cooler is roughly 8 foot by 6 foot and is very well insulated (5 1/4" thick walls)and has a drain in the center. I stumbled across floatation tanks a couple months ago and was pretty intrigued by the concept. The main thing that stopped me from building one right away was the price, every tank I saw online started at roughly 2 grand and quickly went up in price from there. For this reason I wasn't planning on building one. Recently I began thinking about building one in the old cooler using a standard frame built out of studs and a pond liner. I began clearing out all the shelves etc. from the old cooler, swept it up and began planning the tank. All said and done, the materials for this project (studs, plywood, heater, temperature control, pump, salt and pond liner) ended up costing $350.

Here are some pictures of the progress I've made so far. Planning on having this finished by next weekend.

So far I have all the retaining walls built, sealed the walls that were in rough shape and began ripping plywood for the retaining walls. During the week I'm planning on finishing the plywood, lining the room with a material to reduce the chances of the liner ripping then putting in the liner, filling it with the salt and water and hopefully it will be up and running by next weekend.

      Update

Here's a quick update: Finished roughing in the pond liner yesterday. Still have to straighten up the edges and pull some of the slack out of the sides but I wanted to get the salt dissolving process rolling. Currently there is 750lbs (planning on having a total of 1000lbs) of salt in the liner at 75 degrees. Hope my 295 GPH pump is up to the task of dissolving all that salt. I've been stirring it twice a day to help a bit. Next on the to do list(after straightening out the pond liner) is installing the lid. I am planning on using plywood wrapped in a waterproof material. Going to rip it in half and put the front half on hinges.

aww that's awesome. all the materials only cost you 350? I'm definitely going to have to look into that. I have also looked online, and was devastated by the prices.

The things I would do with one of those........ I would travel the universe...... that's what.

Just got finished putting on the lid. All that is left is a little fine tuning. Hoping to be floating by Sunday, the salt is taking pretty long to dissolve though so we will see.
