Thread: An Unexpected Gratitude (for my Ex)

So, I received a call from my Ex a few nights ago, which I missed by a few hours due to work. It got me thinking, and I came to a realization. A very mushy, sappy, yet heartfelt realization. This letter is either a beautiful, heartfelt piece of literature, or pure mushy garbage spawned from a tired mind after a 12 hour shift. You be the judge.

I'm posting this mostly for those of you who are going through a break up, and for any of you who may. Perhaps seeing how I've come to view a tragic break-up might put yours in a new perspective, or grant you some hope.

To my past lover,

Thank you. In retrospect, I realize that I hold a great deal of gratitude for you. For when I was desperate and weak, and in my loneliness I sought love for the worst of reasons, you granted it. When that love withered, it broke me.

You left me broken, and for that you have my most sincere gratitude. For I was weak, and most desperately needed to be broken down, so that I could rebuild myself anew.

When all was said and done, you revealed, in the harshest of lights, the multitude of flaws that sustained my insecurities and discontent. And when I finally saw through the glare of that light, a better path lay illuminated before me.

For that, I wish you the best.
