      Google talk

      really rocks

talk.google.com was up for a really short while

you know that its a real URL because it goes to www.google.com/talk with an error message, yet donkeyporn.google.com leads nowhere.

So what is google talk? Is it like an instant messaging app, or maybe something more along the lines of skype? Judging from all the other stuff google has done (I <3 gmail!), I'd love to see what they could do for a chat app...
      Look, a distraction!

See it's so amazing, the application actually teleports your through the Internet so you can talk to anyone in the world, face to face! And did I mention it was free? Google also let's you use search for anyone in the world that has Internet access that you've had a wet dream about so you can stalk them, secretly.

Google reserves the right to spy on what you are doing at anytime and record your conversations for commercial use and ad-trafficking. All rights reserved G-team 2005

...What is it? As asked before, is it an IM client, or something akin to Skype? Or what?

      Sounds cool.

Skype is a free PC to PC voicechat program. You can make calls to regular phones but that's a paid feature.

Have you tried Qnext? It combines filesharing (192-bit transfers safer then banks), MSN, YIM, AIM, ICQ, voicechat, and video conferencing all in one.

Hmm sounds good. Apparently Google Talk is going to rig it so that you can use it to talk to AIM MSN ICQ or what ever other bloody client out there...

On a side note, did you know that Google saves the content from every single email sent and recieved through Gmail to its servers? They invested millions in these mammoth servers to do it. I'll try and find some info, because I only heard it over the radio, but it sounds a little dodgy to me...

Um don't you think all our emails are saved on some server somewhere.... Be it Google, MSN, Yahoo or Joe Blow email... our emails are not just floating around the net.

OR are you saying that our emails are never deleted from their servers? HUMMM

Anyway check my profile for my email... I have gmail too. I have not yet checked out G-talk though. I am sure I will check it out sooner or later. Sounds cool!

Oh yeah if anyone wants and invite to gmail... I've got some

Yeah, they invested money in a huge sever, seperate from their Gmail server, and any email and every word searched on Google is archived on the other server permanently, supposedly as a way of enabling google and unprecedented amount of information as to what people are looking up and interested in etc. It sounds a little bit like a conspiracy-theory so I haven't really bought into it completley... just an interesting thing I've heard.[/quote]

      also every IM you type

google desktop search also archives AIM messages on your computer.

Text is not a big deal to save, really... its the kind of media like audio, video, audio+video AAAH, and pictures and such. Lemme do a quick calculation since, after all, I am the only one here that lives in math country:

One character(letter, number, pun<tuat!on) takes up one byte.

One kilobyte is 1024 bytes, 1024 letters.

One megabyte is about 1000 kilobytes, exactly 1,048,576 bytes, same number of letters.

One gigabyte is about 1000 megabytes, about 1,000,000 kilobytes. exactly 1,073,741,824 bytes, same number of letters.

A typical computer hard drive these days might be anywhere from 180-200 gb. lets say 190.

an average PERSONAL hard drive can hold 204,010,946,560 letters, or with an average of 7 letters per word, it can hold 34,001,824,426 words. Guessing that the average book is 16,000 words, a typical computer hard drive can hold 2,125,114 books. Thats two milion books in half the size of a typical piece of handheld literature.

Now there IS the argument that you need a special machine to be able to extract this information(computer...), you need sufficent power, yadda yadda, go to hell.
