Just a random question... what causes bliss?

      Hi there!

Just wanting to hear about people's views. I'm listening to Dj Iri (edit : one) and feel very happy. What causes such bliss in a person?

      Sorry for being so random...

Anything that floats your boat, so to speak.

      's all speculation anyways.

What causes bliss? for me at the moment, it's happiness..contentment. Knowing that you can be worrying about something, but there's something else in your life that has the ability to make that seem trivial.
      That feeling of 'rightness'
In my book, that can't be bettered...

What causes bliss for me? Knowing that everything in my life is pretty well in order and otherwise having no worries. Just being happy is also bliss for me.

for me its basically sheer happiness. I have a tendancy to often know when I am really happy and think of all the bad things and go back to them. So my "bliss" is short lived. I don't one can really get "bliss" from just material things, though. More like really good experiences.

Ah, probably an increase in Serotonin levels in the brain. (And other drugs)

I don't know too much about it, but for example when taking ecstasy (as Nina already mentioned ) serotonin levels go BAM!

And chocolate is also supposed to increase levels of serotonin, which is a known anti-depressant..

      Soooooo........ EAT CHOCOLATE NOW!!!!! Mwahahahahah!

      Bliss is a good thing.

      think you mean endorphins, mate

it's the hallucinogens that increase the Serotonin levels

\"Ecstasy has had widespread recreational use because of the influence of those who have already tried the drug. The state of euphoria which is experienced by Ecstasy users involves the neurotransmitter serotonin. The use of Ecstasy causes serotonin neurons to release a large amount of serotonin which are stored in the axon terminals. The attachment of a serotonin molecule to a receptor causes the chemical information to be sent down the dendrite to the cell body of a neuron. Research concludes that mood is influenced in part by the amount of serotonin receptor binding. This might lead one to believe that Ecstasy provides evidence to confirm that Brain=Behavior.

An increase in serotonin levels causes the high felt by Ecstasy, but once the serotonin molecule detaches from the receptor, Ecstasy begins to deplete the serotonin levels in the brain which once deficient, cause depression. Brain imaging research in humans has shown that Ecstasy may affect neurons that rely on the chemical serotonin to communicate with other neurons. The depletion of the normal serotonin supply causes physical damage to the neurons which are used to secrete serotonin. This damage can cause the serotonin nervous system to be 'fried' or 'burned down', leading to potential long lasting depression. A depleting or low supply of serotonin will directly affect the regulation of mood, sleep, sensitivity, and aggression.

      AND

\"Another common neurotransmitter affected by chocolate is serotonin. Serotonin is known as an anti-depressant. One of the chemicals which causes the release of serotonin is tryptophan found in, among other things, chocolate.\"

I'm sorry, you were saying something?
I know that chocolate increases leveles of endorphins, but it also has an effect on serotonin.

Haha, I won't hold it against ya.

On the subject of bliss, dancing to the best drum & bass at New years is probably pretty close for me.

Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.

Actually even though ecstacy is an entactogen I believe it is technically classified as a hallucinogen.

The fact that it rhymes with "Bliss" doesn't imply a causal connection.
