Thread: Financial Aid for University

When I went (no jokes about one-room schoolhouses) it went like this - you first just sign up for your classes and then apply for financial aid. So you don't know for a while if you're going to have to pay for it or what. That was a long time ago though - way back when CDs were brand new and exciting.

If you haven't completed the form online for government assistance they'll have you do that (have last years tax stuff on hand. I also needed a parents info even when I was considered independent). They will also want you to do entrance counseling online which takes about 20 minutes and answers most of the technical questions involved with getting a loan (different types of loans, when to pay them back, how to pay them back, interest rates, etc). In my experience if you're applying for them into the semester like this it takes a couple weeks to find out how much you're eligible for. Then you accept or decline the offers, lower the amount of loaned money if you want, and wait a couple more weeks to get a check. The tuition will be taken out of the check automatically and the rest is yours to keep (well, you'll have to pay it back eventually but you know what I mean).
They have other programs too such as work-study (taking a job at the school in return for payment of part of your tuition), grants, and scholarships.
However, I see you're in Canada. It could be completely different over there. And I've never actually gone to the office and asked questions so I don't know what to tell you on that front. Just ask whatever you want to know. FYI this experience stems from a time period when CDs are virtually outdated.

Well actually we had them, they were just a bit different..

I'm not sure but I think they used to store their data in trees. Also sometimes even in their brains.
