History of the Ellis Coat of Arms: Granted to Sir Henry Elys of Kiddall Hall, Yorkshire, England, temporal King Edward II, recorded in the Roll of Arms, Harlech MSS 4033; also Sir John Elys of Kiddall Hall and his brother Sir William Elis of Everingham, Yorkshire, both temporal Edward III, also Sir John's son, Sir John Elys of Kiddall Hall, arms recorded 1392-97; also Ellis of Stoneacre, where the arms are inscribed on a monument in the church; also Ellis of Shinfield, Berkshire and Swallowfield, Wiltshire, temporal James I; also seated at Hazelwood, Yorkshire, also in the Harlech MSS of 1394, and confirmed on the Herald's Visitation to Yorkshire, 1585.
