      Dancing

Ladies, what do expect from us guy's when we're dancing? I just do the with my hands on the hips...I guess this goes for guys too. In general, what do you expect from your dancing partner when your favorite song comes on?

      Wow.. Interesting topic!

Since I'm primarily a ballroom dancer (i.e., cha cha, salsa, waltz, swing, etc.) which involves your partner actually holding you,
I guess I would expect my partner to know how to lead.

With regular club dancing, his just being able to move on beat would be enough!

Okay, this is going to sound really soppy...but if our song comes on the radio..it's nice just to stand in his arms, shut my eyes, and sway gently...ahh...
not so much dancing...as just being there.

The climax of my dancing life is when someone has DDR (dance dance revolution, arrow stomping game, sweaty) out at their house, or at an arcade. I couldn't dance my way out of a paper bag when it comes down to it.

Btw... s00p I like your name, reminds me of something...

I love DDR! Some people don't do much movement on it though, just stamp their feet methodically. Me, I'm bouncing and flailin'.

I think it's hot when the ladies pair up and club dance, but it kinda leaves us guys to do our own thing...I don't think anyone should refuse a dance, it's against etiquette. Has anyone ever left a potentially partner hanging?

I gotta say I'd rather eat s00p than p00p. But, I suppose we follow a natural progression...(too far?)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cool! What's the best way to start learning ballroom when you're on a limited budget? I love it!

What I did was look for a dance studio near me.. they usually have beginner introductory private lessons at a HUGE discount (to get you started/hooked). I took private lessons for about a year but they can be pricey (five 45 minute lessons for $375.00).

If money is tight, I recommend going to "group" classes! The studio I go to charges $10.00 per person for a 45 minute group class. Group classes are fun in that you don't need to bring a partner as you'll be dancing with different partners and you also get an idea of how different guys lead. After the group class, If you want to practice, there's a dance party directly after the lesson for another $10.00. The party is 1 1/2 hours and they play all styles of music so you can dance all the various ballroom dances.

I highly recommend ballroom dancing (and if you're a GUY.. you are treated like GOLD)!!

I agree with you; just being in the arms of your love is the most awesome thing ever, especially if it's the right song.

Anyway, if I fast dance, it's usually (embarrasingly enough for the person accompanying me) just whatever silly move I can think of at the time. I am kind of a silly person, though...But the most important thing for the guy to do when dancing with me is to have fun and do whatever. I don't care if it's stupid; if it gets us laughing, all the better.

Hehe... This topic reminds me of when I used to work extra as a stripper and *GoGo dancer...

*GoGo dancer = You get hired by a club, go there and party, mingel, get free drinks, dance without a shirt and get paid for it =)

Absolutely - a guy who knows how to lead - and isn't afraid to. The bump-and-grind-thang is really just a free-for-all. Only requirement for the guy to be really good at it is predicting when to get me another drink.

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.

Well I saw a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers movie (I love those movies!) where they were both tap dancing... wait for it.... with ROLLER SKATES! Yes, tap-dancing and pretty full-on too.

So if a girl can tap-dance in roller-skates then she just might get lucky, if she's good.

I'm not really very professional when it comes to couples' dancing, but I have experience of willing to make a fool of myself with another girl who's willing to do the exact same thing, and have a blast. I'm generally confident with doing that, that's why I'm ok with it....Swaying is the bomb too, if you're with somebody special.

Otherwise, bboying has been the type I'm best at. Nothing like a crowd pleaser that gets you compliments for the rest of the nite, except when it's a school dance, people keep asking you "hey, you still break?" And it gets really annoying, especially when they demand you show them something.

I'm only ok at DDR, only can do standard modes. But I am pro at ParaParaParadise, I sure wish arcades have that more. My hand-eye coordination is just much more intuitive than my ddr games, in which I sometimes feel awkward in my stance.

I would say itīs mostly all about confidence. If people can se you are having fun on the dance floor and not having "am I doing this right? Did that move make me look silly?" going through your head and b4 you know it you will se others trying to follow your style.

Let your hands come above your necline and dont be afraid to move your feet to the music. The "unconfident" clubber bairly lifts his feet of the ground and dosent lift his hands above his chest and he is just one in the crowd. Be confident in your self (or pretend to be). I know I was nearly craping my pants the 1st time I went up on stage in a club... Having 200+ swedish girls screaming at me soon changed that =) (ego kick, yes)

      HA!

My buddies and I would club 4 times a week, Thursday threw Sunday. Do that for a whole summer and you start to pick up a few new moves ( know what i mean ) hahah but really, I used to have lots of dance offs. Sure I didnt win them all, once I had a guy bust out glowsticks on me, and I thought to myself "aw shit..." But there was this one skinny dude, he started to liquid (type of dancing) near me, and god it was horrible! haha so I showed him the proper way and actually taught this kid some moves for a few songs.
