I'm truly bummed out by Alan Rickman's passing. As with David Bowie, I didn't know about the cancer. I don't have anything clever or smart to say that would suit such a distinguished actor, so I'll just say what's right hard core centered on my brain about this guy.
First of all, when he played in Die Hard, right away I was blown away by how rich and deep his voice was. Plus there was this tone of dark cynicism that really drew you in. And the latter made him great in other roles, where he needed to be dark, but funny and clever. You're cool if you get insulted by one of his well metered remarks!
I may never have read the Harry Potter books if it weren't for Alan Rickman's Professor Snape. Oh I may have eventually got around to them, but when I saw him play that dark professor, deep voiced, and well suited to student tongue-thrashings, I was reminded a bit of my 6th grade teacher. After that I couldn't put the books or the movies down. And long story medium: he was the whole reason I got into lucid dreaming. I've been doing that for 14 years now, even administrating a website/forum devoted to it. And whenever someone there asks me what got me into lucid dreaming, the answer is the same. I never met you sir, but you can bet I'll still be seeing you in my dreams, old friend. Expecto Patronum baby smile emoticon
