I'm using Netscape, in FireFox mode, and I haven't seen those problems -- except like dream-scape said, if someone posts really wide images, or long URLs.

Firefox is a fully functional browser that is better than IE

haha... thanks for the joke Kim. It was a good laugh I needed.

While I'll concede that IE is widely used and so must support it [as a web developer], I'll possibly consider it as an acceptable browser (or real browser if you prefer) only when Microsoft considers possibly trying to adhere to W3C standards.

and I concur, firefox > IE

The only problem I've ever had with Firefox is that it times out like crazy. I click on a website and it has to time out three times before it finally loads the page. It does this all the time...

Any suggestions?

I'm doing my part to rid the world of Firefox: Our products do not today, nor will they ever, support firefox unless firefox starts supporting the real world out-of-the-box. (For example: out-of-the-box support for Flash and ActiveX)

My support people are trained to respond that we don't support firefox, and point them to the IE download.

IE is far less strict on ISO & W3C standards than other alternatives

From a developer point of view, this is both a blessing and a curse, as functionality and appearance can't always be predictable
nested borderless tables, just an example of this.
But the flip side, is you can do lots of crazy stuff that isn't available on other browsers (great if you run a company intranet where you know everyone's on IE)

Internet Explorer does NOT come with out-of-the-box support for Flash. Rather, Windows has Flash as one of it's many "optional install thingies."

IE supports active-x controls, including Windows flash support. Hence, IE comes with out-of-the-box support for flash.

For me, I use Firefox. Putting all the short-sighted "M$ WINDOZE SUX L33T 4VA" ideas aside, Firefox defintely wins hands down over Internet Explorer when it comes down to actually having features that I actually need, not want. IE doesn't have a good DOM explorer, for example, and that alone is pretty much a decider for me as far as which browser i'm using. Then I need a javascript debugger that isn't half-assed, I need to be able to view the source code with pretty syntax colouring, and IE does not cater to any of that. When I open up an IE window now, it seems pretty impotent.

Firefox also supports the W3C standards alot more strictly than IE does (and if you think you know better than W3C, you are wrong), which is a very good thing, but it's not exactly perfect at that either. You can ask a good web developer how irritating it is to have a site working in one browser, and the other spewing up the website's insides, and IE doesn't exactly help with that either. I hear they're making a concerted effort with WASP to fix all that in the next release, though. And it's not always the browsers fault - people can make sites work across many, many browsers with very few hitches, so blaming it on the browser all the time can be pretty stupid.

For normal people though, IE does (and you have to admit this) win for convinence. By hook or by crook, it's easier to just fire up IE and go with that than it is to go download Firefox and install Flash all over again or whatever. Hardly Firefox's fault that it isn't preinstalled, and Microsoft aren't really supposed to bundle IE by default, but like a normal user who just wants to use the internet actually gives a damn?

I have tabbed browsing in IE.

When I edit source-code I sure as heck don't do it from a browser. I use actually tools. My browser doesn't need to be a pretty-printing source editor. Nor does it need to be a debugger. It needs to be a browser.

Right on! Firefox is too slow....though FF is all I have in this class (I like IE in the other class (And at home)better, since it is 5x faster!)
