      Oculus rift and virtual reality

I am finding it hard to understand why these devices are so popular, and what people actually expect to achieve by putting a box over their eyes?

Now I'm semi joking-these VR devices are pretty nifty tech, but they are so limiting that calling them a virtual reality device is like calling a goat a car. I mean the goat can technically get you to where you want to go, but its really not in the same league at all. These headsets are not virtual reality.

But whatever-they obviously show that people crave to be immersed in these fantasy worlds. You hear it all the time from gamers (I am one myself). IMMERSION! They're willing to buy extremely expensive machines to power their goggles, but I wonder what they would do if they realised that they could actually go to those worlds that they like so much. They could go to Skyrim or try and give that asshole Trevor (GTA 5) a kick in the ass (I did that-not recommended at all), and it would be like an actual virtual reality.

I understand that lucid dreaming takes time and effort, especially if you use WILD like me, but I think its so worth it, that I'm flabbergasted people would want to use these devices when the real thing is available for free.

Do you guys think if LD was more well known, then no one would want to use these devices? Or do you think that most people wouldn't be bothered with the admittedly steep learning curve?

I believe that people in general have to much fear to even consider the potential of Lucid dreaming even after hearing about it. I think it boils down to biased beliefs about dreaming in general, and that goes hand in hand with the fear of being seen as weird or becoming an outsider if a different belief have been created that stands out from friends and familys beliefs when it comes to dreaming.

I liked your goat as a car example, lol! Seeing is believing for so many, and that is very powerful for our perception of course. But I agree with you that Oculus rift and such, wont even come close to Lucid dreaming. But, VR devices will probably be a good thing to LDing, since people will discover or be more familiar with the potential of VR and it's experience that lucid dreaming already have, and more than that obviously. So that which VR and LDing share as commonalities, might be a potential steppingstone for people to become more open-minded about LDing.

Hopefully! I'm not sure it will. I think that part of the reason that people are looking forward to VR is because there is no effort required. They have to just strap it on their face. A lot of people I know think lucid dreaming is mumbo jumbo and not real

VR is a little less hit an miss, and a lot less time intensive than LD
Sure LUCID DREAMS are all fun and games until someone loses a third eye.
