Is it a good idea to contact someone you hung out with for a couple days 18 years ago?

I should probably summarise this somewhat unusual situation:

18 years ago I was at a school camp where students from all over my own province were supposed to get to know their classmates before what I guess would be junior high school - I was 13 years back then, and now I am 31.
The second evening I was at a disco and noticed a cute girl on the dance floor who I held eye contact with until she started smiling back to me, and when I was about to leave she came up to me with two girlfriends and they started talking to me a lot, and then maybe 30 minutes later they asked me to follow them to their cabin and one of them gave me her phone number.
The next morning we were going to have breakfast together, but I lost them there and couldn't find them.
I then intended to call the number I had got when I got home, but for some reason I never did, so another one of them sent me a letter and wondered how I was doing, but I didn't respond to that either (I really don't know why, I think I hesitated about it for some stupid reason until it felt pointless to respond).

However, I recently noticed someone on a social media site who had the same name as this girl, and also looks pretty similar (I remember roughly what she looked like), and to my surprise, she does also live in the right village, and she is my age.
I actually felt tempted to ask her if she remembered any of this, but I feel like it's probably a bad idea to start asking about things that happened 18 years ago like this.
But I feel that I would kinda like to regain contact with them in some way that doesn't feel weird, so is there any way to do that?
I am not really planning on trying to get anything specific out of this, I just feel that it would be fun to make contact with them again in some way.

I'd say just do it, assuming you're not married and don't have a girlfriend. I mean you're just talking to them on social media, right? So why not?

Yeah, I am actually mostly interested in just hearing from them again, even for a brief moment.
I am not sure how to explain it, but it's like a bit of a void.
It's not something that I have been actively thinking about that much, but I have generally pleasant memories of this meeting- they seemed very likeable in general, and I feel like they could be cool friends if I met them again.

Just do it man. You only live once right? Look at it this way - if you don't you'll probably be nagged by regrets over it.

Yeah, get on with it. If it goes bad, you can say you tried and then move on. I mean, its a big world and you've managed to avoid each other (not deliberately) for nearly 2 decades with no effort. And, if it goes good, well, do I need to elaborate?

If the subject comes up, just be honest about why you acted as you did.

Yeah I sent her a message a couple days ago, although she seems to only be active a few times per month, so it might take some time before she actually sees it.

The things that I remember from that day are the girl's first name and her dialing code, and luckily I looked up her number in a phone book and guessed her last name based on that (and made sure to memorise it) shortly after I had returned home, so I am about 70% sure that she is the girl I found recently - at least, she is my age, comes from the expected city, and looks sort of familiar, and she seems to be the only girl from that area who fulfills all of those things.
I also remember the last name of another guy who was with us during most of the evening, although I am not sure about his first name.
It's a bit frustrating to not have any other real clues, but I might have found one of the girls at least.

I am not sure why I am so fixated on this meeting all of a sudden, but probably because it feels like it was about to develop into some sort of friendship and that I might have a chance to regain contact with them now.

Just do it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are going to do. That's what facebook is for, reconnecting with friends
