The Muslim massacre in New Zealand

Facebook is talking a lot about
the Muslim massacre in New Zealand

Then my Facebook friend, Carolyn Cordon,
      Shared THIS article

      ⚘⚘⚘

      Everyone should read this guide
about what to do if you see Islamophobia

For those who do witness Islamophobia,
there’s a number of things you can do.*

Marie-Shirine Yener, a 22-year-old Parisian illustrator, created a guide to give people advice on how they can help Muslims who are being harassed.

She based her strategy on "non-complementary behaviour" – a concept in psychology which aims to disrupt an oppressive connection a potential attacker is attempting to establish with the target.

      1. Talk to the victim, ignore the attacker.✔

      2. Talk about something random.✔

      3. Continue to engage the Muslim man/woman in conversation, building a safe space as you ignore the attacker.✔

      4. Stay with them until the attacker leaves, and escort them to a neutral area.✔

      ⚘⚘⚘

Here's my take on how to best combat racism and cultural bigotry:

Do it together, for people of all races and cultures, equally.
I see alot of people fighting against racism towards black people, but these same people do not care to even to verbally condemn racism against people of other ethnicities.
Even though there are plenty of black racists that attack and berate white people; Many of them are the same people who decry racism against black people like them.
You cannot righteously decry a problem that you are contributing to yourself. Anti-white racism and anti-Black racism are no different; They are both the same phenomenon; Racism.
Similarly, I see alot of people fighting against anti-Muslim bigotry, while they show no concern for bigotry against people of other ethnic/cultural backgrounds.

When the local Synagoge is firebombed, the concern and passion of those who fight Islamophobia is suddenly nowhere to be seen. Many Muslims and Non-Muslims
who decry Islamophobia, are themselves participants in other forms of racism and xenophobia; A great many(that I know personally) are virulently anti-Semitic.(Or Judeophobic as I call it).
Yet again; There is no fundamental difference between bias and hatred against Muslims & bias and hatred against Jews; Both are different expressions of the same racism and xenophobia.

I see that many of the people who attempt to fight against racism have racial/cultural preferences and biases themselves. Even when they don't make overtly racist expressions.
And so they fight against racism in a racially segregated and racially biased way. This is not effective and contributes more to racism than that it helps to end it.

Conclusion: If you see anyone being threatened or berated because of their racial and/or cultural background, regardless of the race/culture of the victim or of the agressor, stand up for them, protect them and condemn the agressor.

      Peace out.
