      New Year in Europe

      Happy New Year!

      Holy shit, the Dutch know how to celebrate.

      Let me backtrack a sec. As most of you guys know, I’m American, but I’m living in the Netherlands with Lucius until the autumn. In most American states, fireworks are illegal unless you have a special permit to put on a show. That show usually starts at 9pm (or when it gets dark) and lasts about 20 minutes. Having no other reference to go by, I just assumed that the Netherlands would be the same way. So when Lucius told me that we'd go outside at midnight "looking for fireworks", I assumed we'd be walking for a while until we found the one guy that had fireworks.

      I was so wrong.

      Everyone in the neighbourhood had fireworks to set off. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. And I also mean REAL fireworks, not the pansy little ones that we fling around in America. I was stunned. Absolutely stunned. I have never seen so many fireworks, nor have I ever been under a firework when it went off. I must have looked like a star-struck little girl. I honestly can’t even find the words to describe what we saw. Unless you’re European and know what I’m talking about, you would have really needed to be there. And the whole country did this! Every neighbourhood in the country, all setting off fireworks. From the sky, it must have looked like the most beautiful warzone in the world.

      Anyway, I hope that everyone had such a nice New Year’s experience as I did.

      Yeah we silly dutch have ALOT of fireworks ^___^ It;s fun. And really everyone has it. In a big city it really adds up. The sky it lit for hours =)

      Sucks to be an america at newyearseve! =D

      we dutch may have had great pieces of fireworks, but we (my family) had kinda... disappointing stuff... really

      new year was disappointing this year... especially when my neighbour, who always has a LOAD (!) of it, as if he is going to blow the sky away... WASN'T HOME this time

      at least the birthday of my uncle was fun

      but anyways:

      I'm near Nijmegen. I was so surprised to see so many fireworks. Like I said, in America, we have a little fireworks show and that's that. But everyone in this little town had them, and it blew me away. I can't even imagine being in a bigger city! From the sky, the Netherlands must be the brightest country on New Years' Eve.

      By the way, I heard on the news that the Dutch people spent like 50 million euro on fireworks! O_O

      haha aren't they great!!!, this reminded me whe I was a kid I use to love fireworks . Now I'm freaking tired of it, If you want to see fireworks you should come to latinamerica, Every freaking day thru out the whole year!, and especially when local sport temas win or score or just play, politic voting cast, and december is just crazy thruout the whole day, specially the 31st, when new year comes, it forms a fog of gunpowder all over the city that last like 3 hours, its just crazy

      And that's why age restrictions are so fun.

      It's alway great at new years over here, although I didn't get a chance to celebrate you could see fireworks in just about every direction and I only live in a little village!

      but is true, this decmber counts were up to like 90 dead and a shop that blew up
