      Earning Respect

      respect is earned right?

So my question is - What earns respect here at dreamviews?

Is it being active for a certain period of time? Is it the quality of your posts? Is it the number of you posts?
Now everone here is nice and all, but that is just because you guys wan't your community to grow so you are Noob worshippers. Respect is different.

A number of things can give you respect, & take away respect.
Things that can get you respect:
Adopting a few newbies; greeting the newbies too; trying as hard as you can to LD; respect all the members, but treat the DGs like the Government, the Mods as the Senate, Seeker as the Vice-President, & Icedawg as the President; be yourself; some people on here may not respect you that easily, so just ignore them.
Things that can have respect taken away:
Breaking the forum rules; getting yelled at by a DG, mod, Seeker, or Icedawg; getting banned; being a moron.
Respect does have to be earned, but as long as you try hard to respect everyone here, that is all that matters.
      (PS: Icedawg, you're cool!!)

I think it is the same way as in real life. The people who add to the community and are nice people (and say meaningful things) are respected. Also, the length of time plays a roll too becuase you can meet and really know more member the longer youve been here. Special titles could be a part of it too. they show a level of maturty and trust from leaders of the site, thus gving the promoted peopel a snece of power and respect.

Couldn't have said it better if I wanted to.
Newbies may be greeted, but it does take a long time for them to become part of our community. Length of time can play a role on here, but also the amount of times you visit can contribute to that too.
Some people may also decide they are happy just being members here, & need no promotion at all. Members can be strong the way they are, and can make choices for themselves that makes us look at them in different ways & different amounts of respect.....
      *Edit
      Senseless stuff removed!

Respect is a hard thing to earn but easy to distroy so do not distory your respect

The respect earned (not just at DV) is basically equal to the wisdom of the person. What others think they are here to base respect on. I don't know.

OK, now that the senslessness has been removed.

What earns my respect more than anything else is to see members actively helping other members and trying to help make DV a nicer place. It's not about just helping the new members learn to LD, it's also about reaching out to older members that might be going through a rough time.

I also respect people when they show maturity by being kind to others and by being slow to anger when they are attacked. Nothing lowers a person in my eyes than to see them come in with both guns blazing in some kind of attempt to 'prove' to the rest of the world that 'they' have the answers and anyone elses opinion is crap.

Here is an excerpt most of you will immediately recognize. I have the greatest respect for anyone that attempts to walk with this type of love in their heart for their fellow Dream Views members.

      Love is long suffering,
      love is kind,
      it is not jealous,
      love does not boast,
      it is not inflated.

      It is not discourteous,
      it is not selfish,
      it is not irritable,
it does not enumerate the evil.
It does not rejoice over the wrong, but rejoices in the truth

      It covers all things,
it has faith for all things,
      it hopes in all things,
      it endures in all things.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

For respect on the internet you have to be un-serious. All the time.

Even when talking to the pope. You would have to cover him in carrots and dance the cha-cha-cha with him. Or be UN-respected.

That's just my view of things.

I hate to be the only one to disagree but I don't even think respect is earned. Atleast not for me. I have respect for everyone untill they do something to lose it.

I am not nice to anyone because I want them to stay. I just try to be nice to people in general because thats how I am.

I generally respect everyone untill they do something I disagree with. Of course I respect friends and family more. I also respect people who know more than me and chose to share their knowledge, such as most of the people here at Dream Views. Like Seeker, I also respect people who don'y anger easily.

Just a quick question, am I respected here?

EDIT: I don't like people who always jump to conclusions.

psssht... you don't even deserve an answer from me....SCUM...

arrogance is the only quality which can cause me to lose respect for anyone.
