What do u think needs to be done in the world today?

A certain specialist/s hired by unknown persons are working on making a law to ban flag burning in Australia if it is an Australian flag.

So this person or persons. Are thus working furiously behind the scenes (shhh very quietly) to make burning an Australian flag illegal in Australia. hmmm, why?
I can think of more deadly things that are done to the environment and the people. That is currently legal. The only thing that this would hurt is the material of the actual flag and maybe someones pride. Which is generally based in illusion anyway. What use is pride?

What's that? I didn't mention America? WOAH. Amazing. There is other countries in the world besides yours!!!!!
And your not the center of attention? wtf?I'm sorry.
      America America America.

Isn't it a bit silly to have in the world one thing legal in one particular country and then the exact same thing illegal in another country?

See if I go to this side of the world. I can buy and smoke this drug. If I am over that side of the world. It becomes a crime to do what I did just a while ago in the other country.

Do we know what crime is? Do we agree or know how to govern ourselves? Well, not technically, because the laws vary depending on what part of earth you reside.

And what stops a criminal from making a law?

      think about that....
If we are for example not intelligent enough or the criminals become more intelligent in their ability to make laws. We will not be able to stop or notice what should or should not be a law.

Also if the government owns land. Does it own the sky above that land? If so how far above the sky, does it go all the way into space? And how far below the ground does it own?

If it owns the ground beneath the land all the way down. Does that mean it owns the land in the country that is on the other side of the earth directly opposite it?

But seriously. There are important things in the world that we agree are insane and damaging. That we agree is stupid. But we still don't change it.

I really would like people to start paying attention, educating themself, and looking at our world and society and what we are doing to it. Or what inaction or action is doing the most damage and what the best thing to do is. And to live it.

If we unravel society slowly and build upon what works and destroy what is not working. Things will be alot better. Instead of just sitting there and letting it drift on it's own to destruction.

A weak person will say it's useless. but I think we can do alot if we put our focus on it.

This is probably best in extended discussion.

Anyway, I highly doubt that any bill to outlaw burning the Australian Flag will ever be passed. The backbencher that is currently talking about drafting this bill Browyn Bishop never does anything but make the news by suggesting new extreme, right-wing, ridiculous bills. Remember her idea of introducing a bill to outlaw Muslim girls from wearing headscarves at school because they were a sign of rebellion? The woman is bizzare, the issue will be dead in a couple of days.

Well, not really. Many societies regard different things to be important - just look at the difference of cultures all over the world. If everyone was the same it'd be rather boring, don't you think?

It's too bad that our freedoms, as people, no matter where we live are slowly being plucked away, like feathers on a dead chicken. I feel that it is not the Government's place to dictate morality to us. Anyway, that is what happens.......

Point taken. The main issue I was raising was the inconsistency in government.

btw are Howard supporters ready to admit how foolish they are? The more we don't pay attention, indeed the more our freedom will degrade.

Democracy is for freedom. Got to keep it in check you know. No other stance can be taken in democracy.

Just burn the pic of some one you love most and feel it.

To me the flag of my country is valuable. Its because it makes me remember the struggles and sufferings of people who made my country independent. I enjoy my freedom because of them.

Its part of evolution. Soon every country will unite to form a global nation. Just dig up the history to know the same thing happening in the country level. Then like columbus and Vasco de gama, some people will travel in space to find out new planets with life in it. Then there will be colonization. There will be war between planets. Then we will fight as Earth. Not as America or Russia or India or Pakistan. Then there will be UPO (United planets organization) . Then again if you are there, you will ask. "Isn't it a bit silly to have in the universe one thing legal in one particular planet and then the exact same thing illegal in another planet? " Its evolution. pure evolution.

I agree that there are much more important things to deal with than people burning flags. They should be finding out the reason why they don't like the country and try fixing the problem but that won't happen. Burning flags doesn't hurt anyone. I'd much rather have people burning flags than burning buildings or cars or other things. And if you have pride in your country and flag you should go outside and fly a flag around instead of complaining and trying to stop people from burning your flag.

I'm confused. Are you saying people that advocate genocide are equivalent to cigarettes? Or that they are homosexual?

Neither makes much sense to me.

Well, firstly, I don't understand why Australia should even have its own flag. Since it has effectivley become a colony of the United States, surrendering itself to be part of that intimidated 'Coalition of the Willing' it would be only right and proper that it know longer pretend to be an independent Power deserving of its own colors. It seems you have collectively already as much as burned your flag. In your adoptive submission to America, it should be the American Flag that you are sworn to protect.

HELLLLLL NO . There is NO way the people of Australia would accept being part of america . I think Australia needs to find its own identity , we are too caught up with america , as is the rest of the world . Like anywhere there are fools that follow blindly without consideration , but not all of us are so foolish and it would be a total copout to see us go the way of america , i mean were smarter than that , cmon guys give us some credit . Once we get rid of John Howard that is , hes the only reason you see Aussies over in Iraq , he and Bush are bum buddies and Johnnie will do anything to impress Bush . It makes me sick actually .

Australia needs to think for itself , we are so multicultured we dont really need to for identity , we just need to drop JH .

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but we currently are part of a milliatary alliance with the United States... 'surrendering' ourselves to be part of the Coalition of the Willing is done along the mindset of 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours', dating back to the days when there was much hooplah about an Indonesian invasion. Maintaining an alliance with America does hae its benefits to a much smaller country, although occasionally you have to jump on a few war bandwagons.

It's going to be interesting to see how our relationship with America fares through the next decades though - Australia is starting to become much friendlier to Asian countries of late, particularly China. Should (as some neo-cons have tried hyping up) America ever go to war against China, it would be interesting to see who Australia would support. Economically, China is now a much more important country than America to us, and usually when something is economically important it becomes important in other areas as well. As to Australia finding its identity, I think not knowing is half the fun.

Interesting fact: sales of Australian flags have risen over 400% since Sept. 11.

As a matter of curiosity - what country are you from, Leo?
