      Valentine's Day

First of all, I’d like to ask people to please refrain from the “screw Valentine’s day” comments. No one wants to hear your emo.

That said, funny enough, I’m usually the type of person to quietly scoff at Valentine’s day. I don’t go out of my way to make it miserable for others, nor do I angst about it and paint scary, bloody pictures so everyone can see how black and torn my heart is. Nope. To me, Valentine’s day has been ‘just another day’ for quite a long time now. I wish people a happy holiday, but that’s about it. This year I painted something for Lucius and didn’t expect to get anything in return. The ‘holiday’ is nothing special to me, but if I had a boyfriend I suppose I would feel differently.

So, onto my story of why Lucius is my best friend and way better than a straight guy (because straight guys generally never think of this stuff).

First he made me breakfast. He does this a lot because he’s a big sweetheart like that, so while I squeaked at his sweetness, I also didn’t think too much of it as far as the day goes. We talked about our dreams as we usually do every morning and then we took breakfast into the livingroom, where he gave me a poem and a present, wrapped in red with a cute pink bow. I’m not going to share the poem with you guys because his poetry is something very personal and special to me. So I’ll get right to the present.

I unwrapped a grey bear with a blue nose and little patches on his body; arguably the cutest teddy bear in all of existence. No joke. This thing is so cute that grown men were going “Aww, that’s adorable!” in the store. I reiterate that this thing is probably the cutest stuffed animal in the world. This thing could stop wars because the soldiers on both sides would burst into tears and hug each other because of its sheer cuteness. I looked at him again and I’m pretty sure I just sprouted a cavity... Anyway, aside from its tear-jerking cuteness, it has a heartwarming little storybook that comes with it. You can read it right here if you want. There are a bunch of them (some holding hearts, some wearing cute little t-shirts, etc.) but mine is rather unique because, if I remember correctly, he was the only one like it in the store (which, by the way, had a virtual mountain of cuteness. I swear it wasn’t legal). My little bear is wearing a witch hat with a cloak.

I think I spent about an hour squeaking, “KAWAII!” in that special tone of voice that only purely delighted females can attain. You know what I mean. It’s the same sound that we make when we see a litter of fluffy kittens. It’s the sound that I’m pretty sure only dogs and small children can actually hear.

So that’s how Lucius made my nothing-special day a whole lot better. And all I did was draw him a crappy picture...

I should also mention that I lost a lot of 'seme points' with this gift.

So what did you guys do today?

The beautiful thing about Valentines Day here in Japan is that its a holiday for guys ONLY. All the males get chocolates from the females, and thats it. I think I got about 10 or more, chocolates from my friends that are girls this year. Its hell of alot better than america's Valentines Day... LOL

Of course there is White Day (March 14) where I choose to return the favor, or not... Its not as obligatory, though

How sweet Lost Soul. Way to go Lucius!

My wife and I usually don't do anything special for Valentines day, mainly because our wedding anniversary is on the 11th, which we do celebrate.

I go out of my way to make everyday 'valentines day' for her. Nothing major, just staying close, letting her know I am always thinking of her, random kind touches and words, the occasional small gift.

Valentine's day is the best because a lot of people do what they should really do everyday (I hope).

I think on Valentine's day we should give lots and lots of love and warmth not only to our lovers but to everybody we care for, and even strangers, like on Christmas But again, we should really do that everyday ^_^

But since this world is not as ideal I hope people at least do it today. Long live love!

Happy Valentine's day everybody, I hope you'll have a great time with your sweetie and if you don't have one or can't be with him/her I hope you'll experience love in a different way or from afar

It's the small things that matter, and the feeling behind it So yeah, you don't have to. Valentine's day is about love, not gifts ^_^

Your love for your wife and your words are worth so much more than some guy giving some girl a diamond ring even though he doesn't care as much

But you know that of course

Ooh! I learned something! I always thought Valentine’s Day in Japan was boys giving gifts to girls, and White Day was girls giving gifts to boys. We don’t have White Day in the west (at least not in America or the Netherlands, where I'm living now) so I'm happy to learn the truth!

That’s a lot bigger than you think, you know. A single gentle, loving touch goes a LONG way. It’s the little things that make the largest impact.

I completely agree. If I am ever beaten, thrown in prison, tortured, and then beheaded, I expect everyone to start celebrating St. Muezza's Day without argument. Perhaps instead of exchanging chocolates and roses, milk and balls of yarn could be substituted.

Well happy anniversary too! How long has it been seeker?

My wife believe that if we want to show our love for each other it is not going to be set by a card Co. Standard. But to behave nice, as A lost Soul requested > I wish everyone a happy Valentines life.
Maybe we should think about making it more than a day. Sorry. My two cents is in positive fashion, no?

      Happy Valentine's Day!

My husband and I have been married for about two and a half months now (since 10/1/05), but we've been together for over 5 years. We've never really done a whole lot to celebreate Valentine's Day, but neither of us really gets into it. Birthdays, Christmas, and anniversaries are enough! We love each other very much and show each other often, so doing something extravagent isn't really our style. I got him a card this year and that's it (I hid it in his work shoes last night so he'd find it early this morning when he went to leave for work). It's early and he's at work so I don't know if he's gotten me anything yet!

Though I think Valentine's day is a great holiday, I do think (as some people have already described ) choosing a lifestyle in which you were generally curteous and loving to those around you (significant other included) is ultimately more satisfying than just one, two, three, or four days to tell someone you care. Love is something that souldn't be limited to just a couple of holidays. It should be given freely every day to everyone, even if it is just a small gesture of kindness like a smile or compliment.

I'm not to get really all mushy about valentine's day with constant plastered smiles on my face. I got my girl a box of chocos and a card that I wrote a joke in, which she really seemed to dig. Hey, let's just say my reward was better than a box of chocolates in return.

      Ok, I'll do it once.

      Happy V-day!

I had dinner with my grandma on valentines day. That's about the best I could do.

I'm really glad you said that LS

I mean, I'll admit I hate the commercialism of it (as well as with the other holidays), and the way commercials seem to pressure people into spending wads of dough on flowers, chocolates and jewelery. But there's nothing wrong with taking one particular day of the year, to show your lover, mate, spouse, friends, family etc that you care about them. You should every day, but why not take one day and kick it up a notch or two. You don't have to chuck money out the window. For example last night, I just cokked a really really nice dinner for my boyfriend, and bought him a jumbo sized coffee mug (because he loves coffee) and he got me some flowers and truffles. No expensive jewelery....no fighting with restaurants to make reservations in the middle of the week...no being incredibly tired the next day.

And if I didn't have a boyfriend, then me and chris would have just made heart cookies and enjoyed them together.

So yeah, it's nice to see some people can find a way to enjoy a holiday instead of whining about their angst. Course I suppose today's youth are entitled to it.
