      OCD?-Your pet hates/ Wierd thing

Ok, it seems that loads of people have OCD in some form or another, and it's been estimated that 2-3% of people have it. Everyone does some strange thing.

So, what's your wierd rituals that you perform, or your pet hates that make you squirm?

To start, one of my 'things' is corners. If I touch one side, I have to touch the others

      Edit: Poll as well!

Several times a week, after I lock up the house to leave for work and get out to my car, I have to turn around, unlock the door again, go back upstairs, and make sure my coffee maker and curling iron are unplugged. If I don't, I worry all day that the house will burn down. Even if I know for sure I unplugged them, I still have to double check.

      I'm a nutjob.

LOL! You never know, that could save you life one day. Shame I don't get that way about RCs

Oh I just thought of a good one! Whenever I hoover the house, after i'm done I usually have to touch the three the pins of the plug-sometimes I have to lick them. I have no idea why, but if I don't it just doesn't feel right. I tried it once ages ago to see if I got electruted, know I can't stop doing so.

I find that if I leave these little things I feel some kind of 'magnetic attraction' to them tring to pull me back to them.

      Yup- I'm cuckoo!

      Mess... of any kind.

Strangely enough my living space is filthy and I hate it being clean, but other then that I can't stand mess. I make a huge point of cleaning things the moment they get any dust on them, especially with screens, be it TV or computer (for some reason it's worst with my PSP). I'm constantly cleaning them and get really angry if people touch them.

      Yes... I'm a freak.

      jeez....where do I begin?

well #1 would have to be my floors thru out the whole house. I vacuum everyday...sometimes twice and so on. If it doesnt get done I will literally drive myself crazy with worry.

HAIR - I hate stray hairs. Like pet hair for example. I went to a friend's beach house this past weekend and they had dog hair everywhere!! Even the sheets in the bed were covered in dog hair. Could NOT sleep until those sheets got washed and I was convinced there were no more hairs on them. (I also vacuumed the house -a few times- for them).

Hand washing and lotion - Im obsessed with hand-washing and then applying hand lotion. I probably do this 4 times in one hour. This also falls under the category of me being worried about germs. I always carry the Wet-Ones Antibacterial wipes where ever I go and public restrooms...dont even get me started.

Another one my mother to my attention years ago - She said she noticed that I never sleep on white sheets. She was right. Whenever I buy sheets they are anything but white. When I go out of town or something and the hotel or whatever has white sheets I always feel VERY uncomfortable sleeping on them.

I'll probably think of more things later.....Im so weird.

I wiggle my nose like a cat, and don't notice...
I make yep noises lik a cat when people poke me...
When people say something I already know...
      The list goes on...

      Hmmm...I have a few things.....

Well, for one, brushing my teeth is kind of OC. I must brush my teeth at least 3 times a day. Actually, I had to limit myself to 3 times, as I fear by brushing the amount I was was wearing the enamel down. It used to be 5-7 times a day, after I put anything in my mouth. I started getting very disturbing dreams that my teeth were falling out and since I only brush them 3 times a day, I still get them occasionally.

Another one is, nobody else can use my hair brush. I hate it when anyone tries to use my brush....I have no idea why, but it perturbes the hell out of me, and I hate it.

My face washing habits can become a little out of hand. Like the tooth brushing thing, I was washing my face roughly six times a day...I've had to cut down a lot to only one time a day with a gentle cleanser.

I think the term 'pet peeve' lacks validity, for I don't in reality that they would hold a common thread

for instance, Answers.com gives this example for the term's usage: My pet peeve is that neighbor's cat running through my herb garden.

Well in all honestly, who WOULDN'T want a cat running through their herb garden? And when I think of it, there aren't really any 'pet peeves' that wouldn't annoy the crap out of me. Therefore I don't believe this example to be a 'pet peeve'

Most of the time it's just a way for people to exercise social status...like one time I heard someone say "OMG you totally just drank your milk with a straw...that's one of my pet peeves!!"

Ok so, just because that person finds it 'uncool' it becomes a pet peeve?

I think pet peeves are my only real pet peeve

      I've got a sleeping thing.

I can only sleep on my right side. If I sleep on my back, I won't get to sleep, because I'm scared I will have nightmares (this goes back to the time I was 5 years old, in a time I was having a lot of nightmares. My mom told me that I should sleep on my side, because then you have less nightmares.)

      So that is my thingie

Yeah, I have to have everything in line with each other, all the lines in parralell. My light fixture is not line line with the walls of the room, and I can really notice it even though it's only a few degrees out of line.

I hate attitude. You know what I mean... somebody's pissed about something, and needs to make sure the whole world knows it.

It is an intrusion. I resent it and get an attitude about it.

The other thing is my feet. They have to be CLEAN in order for me to sleep. If I'm in a position where I can't shower before bed, I will find a way to wash my feet no matter what... or else I will end up laying there thinking about how gross my feet feel.

Whoa! I am not kidding, I could write a freakin' ESSAY on this! A bit of a list, instead.

I have a thing with symmetry. Some things it applies to, some things it doesn't... it's weird. Like, if I move my head to one side, I gotta move it to the other too, just to balance things out. This isn't anywhere NEAR so bad as it used to be when I was a kid, but I still get it from time to time.

I have this thing with pen colors, too. Like, I have a certain color for my DJ, a certain color for my class notees, etc. I was short of pens yesterday, and I had to write my class notes in green instead of blue. Now, and I'm not joking, this HAUNTED me for the rest of the day. Even when I look at my green class-notes now, I'm getting this massive urge to tear them up and re-write them in green.

I also tend to be incredibly organised with some things, but not with others. IT seems, that when I make any EFFORT to organise something, it's gotta be absolutely spot-on and specific. This is kinda weird, cos if you see my room, it's REALLY messy.

I also tend to get really angry when people leave their books in a certain way, without using bookmarks. Seriously, this HAS ended up in my shouting at people.

There's heaps of other stuff, too. But yeah. OCD is kinda funny, but then again, it CAN be kind of annoying.

Yeah I get that alot too, with stuff like switches and buttons. Apparently it's called 'evening up' exercises. If I come across a switch with 3 settings, I can get 'stuck' swiching them for ages, because it has to end in the middle setting, but I also have to switch them all the same number of times (which is impossible).

I do that too, with my fingers. I touch the tips of my fingers in succession with my thumb.

I've caught myself doing that type of thing on occasion.

But I guess the biggest things for me are my keys and my wallet. If I'm at home, they're on my dresser. If I'm out, they're in my front pockets. When I am out, I will often surreptitiously touch my pockets to make sure they're in there. Drives me bonkers if they aren't where they're supposed to be.

I also find myself doing that with my cell phone, now that I have one that I wear on my hip -- it's either there or on the charger at home.

I almost voted 'no' but then I remembered I have my own share of quirks, many of which stem from add.

Anyway I'm always fidgeting. Usually I tap my fingers in combinations on my desk, trying to make more and more complex patterns without screwing up. That gets boring and people glare at me when I'm too loud or persistent so I've picked up twirling pens in my fingers. I've gotten pretty darn good, I'd say. In lieu of any finger fun, I'm always tapping my feet rhythmically or slapping my lap/hip like a drum. When I can't even do that I start to get really irritable and worry about my sanity so I actually tap my teeth together to make a beat. My mom never lets me tap in her presence because her father used to do it and it drives her up the wall. So, when I'm around her my mind goes in circles and all I can think about it going somewhere else so I won't disturb her. I guess you could say I'm a spaz.

Well, I know that I have more, but one of my "things" is since I'm a very sense-oriented person (especially smell and touch), I have a habit of when I'm thinking really hard I have a tendency to play with my lips. I'll touch my pen/pencil to my lips or just pull on them for some reason. I usually don't even think about it when I do it (as I was just before I posted). Also, when I'm taking a test I have a habit of playing with my bangs, just running my fingers through them and tugging on them a little bit. I should stop, though, because my bangs are fairly thin.

I also love touching my hair to my lips. Don't ask why because I don't know.

oh I missed the part about OCD's, I thought it was just a pet peeve thread

I have some bizarre nervous ticks, some have come and gone, making way for new ones, some have been faithfully by my side for years.

Probably the weirdest one I had, which I thankfully got rid of, is when I was about 12, I couldn't walk through the hallway without tapping my foot twice in each doorway along the way. I remember a couple times, I was going too fast and ended up bashing the shit out of my pinky toe. Finally what got me to stop was my mom taking notice "Well it's no wonder you hurt your toe! You always have to 'tappity tap' your foot in every doorway go walk past!!"

I think the embarassment of someone having noticed it helped me get enough will power to stop it.

I also have to spit in the shower, don't know what that's about. That's a relatively new one for me though.

      I've got lots.

For one, I hate when people say "same difference". No. There's NO DIFFERENCE. If there's the same difference, there's TWO PAIRS OF OBJECTS, AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO OBJECTS IN ONE PAIR IS IDENTICAL TO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO OBJECTS IN THE SECOND PAIR. Is that what you meant? I didn't think so. I correct people EVERY TIME I HEAR THAT.

And I hate Inuyasha. As VGCats put it so elegantly, "F**K INUYASHA! IT'S FREAKIN DRAGON BALL Z FOR GIRLS!"

If you're going to annoying sayings, add "Out of Random" to the list. I mean, where on earth did you come up with that? It's "randomly"... one word. Not hard. I've also started saying "I'm well" when people ask me how I am. "Well" is an adverb, "good" is an adjective. As a language major I've become more picky so "I'm good" grates a little bit against my ears. Besides, you're not always "good." If you feel like crap then tell me so so I don't make it worse by telling you how everything is bright and sunny.

And people who use "How are you?" as a greeting and then just walk away. I mean, you asked me the question. I want to answer it! Don't initiate a conversation if you don't intend to hold it.

As for annoying sayings, I hate 'No Offence'. Of corse you mean it to offend! And if you don't want to offend then don't say the offencive sentence then!- More of a general hate than a 'thing'.

Annoying sayings?? There are about a billion of them on my list, but I hate it when someone pronounces the word 'specifically' as 'pacifically'....There are people who do that, believe me...
