MY dad...............

My dad. I am my dad in a lot of ways. My dad is 71 years old and servd in the Korean war. He is one of the most hard working men I know. My dad has fathered my brother, my two sisters and myself. I am glad to be my dad in so many ways. Not just today, fahter's day. Everyday. Thanks dad.

My dad is going to be 89 in a few short weeks. He's a tiny little Sicilian dude - first generation American, really, but he wears the Sicilian badge proudly because of what it meant to be a "bottom of the barrel" immigrant's child back in the 1920's. He lived through the Great Depression and enjoyed it. He married my mom as the world was engaging in its epic battle with the Nazi philosophy and mindset. He spent his working life doing a job he loved for people he despised, managing to avoid debt and still providing a nice home and a comfortable life for his wife and three children. He continues to honor his marriage vows in caring for my mom, who has become an invalid and has lost most of her cognitive abilities. He's still sharp and active and a total pain in the ass. He remains one of the very few in this world who can raise my ire with the turn of a phrase. He installed my buttons and has not forgotten how to push them. God bless my dad.

Nice tributes. Great to see people whose fathers are worth honoring. Unfortunately, I am not among you. Father's day serves as a bitter reminder to me of things I'd rather not discuss here.

That's too bad. I know a lot of people who don't have good relationships with their fathers. Mine could have gone bad, but I am grateful we managed to come to understand and appreciate each other. I know that's not always possible tho. Favorite quotes from my Dad: "It can't get too easy." "Be glad when you're bored, it means nothing bad is happening to you." "Money is like air; it won't make you happy, but it can make you a lot more comfortable in your misery."

Yes, Very nice tributes. I am sorry Skysaw. While we may all have fathers, we are not all blessed with dads. My wife is in a similar position. There is no easy way to talk or get your head around something like that. Nice moonbeam. Those belong in "A proverb day" ~ Good ones!
