      List of penalties?

You know, there are some things that you'd expect to be there, on the internet, for the general public to see. And especially to be easily located. Well you know all this stuff in school they did about dealing this will get you 14 years plus an unlimited fine etc. etc.? That's easy enough to find but where is all the data for everything else?

Vandalism, stealing, illegal downloads, you name it, I can't find ANY information on what the actual solid penalties are for these crimes! Isn't there like an online database with a list of certain crimes and their punishments? Isn't it THAT simple? I've been searching for ages but nothing useful ever comes up.

So yeah, google's a bitch. If anyone could please direct me to this information (for the UK) then I'd be very thankful.

There's no certain fine and shit for those charges, the judge decides what you have to do. I had a friend that stole some kind of electronics shit from Wal-Mart once and he broke some security guards leg and he got 6 months in jail, I know of people that's robbed places and spent so many months in jail. Sometimes people that vandalize have to pay for the property they vandalized, or spend time in jail, whatever. It depends on how much of an asshole the judge is as to what you have to do.

I think there's different levels of crimes. Class 1 misdemeanor, class 2 misdemeanor, felony, capital felony, etc. etc. I'm not exactly sure which classes there are nor do I know where to find information concerning them. They dictate the range of the penalty to be applied, I do believe. Like a fine of 1-1000 dollars.

Maybe the UK runs off a similar system? But no, I don't know.

I'm not sure if this is any help Idolfan, but if you try the justice system and their records, you may find what you are looking for. I can't say for sure where you live if it's the same.
So rather than using something sooo large and often vague as goggle, try to specify s search for county, state or what ever region you live in type search.
Many records here have to be displayed to the public but they certainly do not make an effort to exploit it. So the justice system is where you look.

Just don't hold it against me that I'm a convicted felon.

Right then. I'm starting to wonder if there is actually a neat "penalty" table, cos it could just be about having an asshole for a judge . I wish they'd taught more about this in school.

Reckon there'd be anywhere I could go besides the internet to get that information?

      Law school.

What you're asking is what people study when becoming lawyers and what not. You want to know the law. So I figure...either the net with some good searching skills or a library perhaps.

You can't get anything for "illegal downloads", that is of course if you're talking about copyright/intellecutal property.

The worst that can happen is you get sued by the RIAA/MPAA, and they really only go after people they can make an example of. If you don't want to get sued, use a proxy server and clear out your share folder on livewire or whatever people use anymore.

It's incredible how long you can be searching the net and find nothing. It's full of "proposals" and "suggestions", nothing is specified. From what I've seen on Yahoo, I'm not the only one that's pissed off about this.

Can you really find this kind of stuff in libraries? I know that they have records of old newspapers back to pre-war times, so maybe I actually could find some records regarding specific laws. It wouldn't half be a boring search though.

I would really be surprised if there weren't any records of laws. Wierd. I've seen something for my country, but I can't seem to find anything for England.

You should ask your local constable. Wait, they ARE called constables, right?

Yeah, PCs. I don't like the police though.
