YAY!!! I was there at the birth of Punk rock!!!!
I've got to say, the Ramones are probably my favorite punk group. I mean, How can you top songs like "I want to be sedated" and "Cretin Hop".
Rocket to Russia was popular when I was in high school.
Adam Ant was getting his start along with the Sex Pistols and The Police.
I'm pretty into Punk rock. Mind you, the sort like Seeker just mentioned. Ramones are totally awesome. Too bad they're almost all dead now  Blitzkrieg Bop is a good one, and I like Rock'n'roll High School too. Good stuff.
Newer punk isn't really punk at all...not devil's music, certainly, but I can't say I really like most of it. Too dark nowadays. Hard to find any that's happy and upbeat--used to be a big Green Day fan, but with their latest they've left the 'happy/too much caffeine' group and gone to hang out with the goth-emo hybrids. Other than that, I prefer ska.
Im a huge punk rock fan!!
It all started when I was 16 and heard The Bouncing Souls - Ballad of Johnny X.
From there I was hooked and here are just a few of my fav. bands:
Sex Pistols
Ramones
Social Distortion
Dropkick Murphys
Dead Kennedys
The Queers
Rancid
:tunes:
The Bouncing Souls are a good group
I also like Sex Pistols (sorta), Social D, Dead Kennedys and a very small amount of Rancid. Dropkick Murphys used to be a favorite of mine, but the more I listen to it, the more it sounds like random slamming of a guitar with occasional bagpipes. Their newest CD is a good step up, but they're still not nearly as good as some other Celtic punk bands. Try The Real McKenzies (WAY awesome group--favorite songs: Farewell to Nova Scotia, Skeleton and the Tailor, Swords of a Thousand Men, Scottish and Proud and Pour Decisions), or you might like Siobhan (Apparently pronounced Shiv-awn and meaning woman of wisdom, though I don't know why they'd name a rowdy celtic punk band that). Also, Flogging Molly is much more though-out celtic punk.
Other celt-punk bands:
The Tossers
Great Big Sea
The Bloody Irish Boys
The Briggs (<--this one sounds alot like the Murphys, but I don't like them for the same reason I don't like the Murphys)
I know I've got more...
Thanks! Im always on the look out for new PR music/bands!!! ;)Quote:

Not too too much into punk, but I've always liked stuff like the older Green Day, a little Weezer, there are a few Toadies songs that I like, and uhm....hmm..a few more..just can't think of any more names at the moment.
I like alot of 80's punk, but my fav is.
Ramones
Dead Kennedys
Athletico spizz 80
Sex pistols
Wall of voodoo
What else need to be pointed out?Quote:

Some may bash their depth of musical talent. But the talent lies in the fact that they could get their feeling & emotions across regardless of how.
Oh YA - The Misfits :)
The later grunge genre was most heavily influenced by their power chords and same simplicity to get a feeling across to listeners.
Don't you think?
Punk Rock is dead.
It used to be a way of life, now it's a clothing style.
I'd probably say that the Sex Pistols signaled the beginning of the end when Johnny Rotten closed their final show with the words, "Ever feel like you've been cheated?". Proving, or at least suggesting, that the punk style could be exploited for massive profit.
In the 80s, punk music went underground for the most part. Very few punk rock bands gained the elite status in pop culture that their predecessors were granted.
In the mid-90s there was a bit of a revival; Greenday, Rancid, AFI, 'skate-punk' and ska all got pretty big.
Today what do we have? Pop punk trash like Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy and emo. Hell, Rancid's Tim Armstrong formed the Transplants and sold his music to a god damn shampoo company! How punk is that?
yah i know I hate the commericial! i was thinking wtf when i first saw it. (supposedly they bought some really poor friend of theirs a house with the money it made though? i'm not sure of that..)
anyways yah all this "bubble-gum punk" sucks...in a big way...now and forever.
Ya know honestly I dont think I actually ever heard any of the Misfits music. I've been meaning to for some years now. I'll have to download a few songs and see what they are all about.....Thanks for the the reminder Howetzer!! :DQuote:

Oh come on Brady....You know you love it!!
"It used to be a way of life, now it's a clothing style."
That's the thing about music - Its whatever you want it to be.
Why does there have to be rules with music?
No one should feel guilty or stupid for choosing one style of music over another.
Who the hell cares if someone writes a damn song and sells it to a shampoo company?? It's their song. So what?
It matters because when somebody sells their songs to shampoo companies, they're screaming, "We're in this for the money!" Now, I know they need to make a living, but make a living through record sales, not shampoo ads. When I buy my favorite band's album, I don't intend on spending money to hear a jingle from Suave's latest advert.
