      Transitional Objects

I find the transitional object very interesting. Pediatrician and psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott defines it as "some object which is neither himself nor someone or something else, often referred to as "Not-Me" possession. The transitional object stays as the limit between the inner self and the external world. As a child develops it will lead him to recognize the external life of objects."

      mine was my thumb
my son's is "Bobby the Bunny" (a member of the family now lol)

My Transitional object has always (since I was 3 1/2) been my Gameboy, but my imagination was close behind it.

Also a thumbsucker. I stopped when my uncle told me a (fake) story about a girl my parents had before me, and she sucked her thumb, and when she got to be my age, she didn't stop and her thumb fell off, and her hair and her toenails and she had to go live in a cave. So, I promptly stopped. Damn those lies. I thought that was a scary story...

      LOL Gwen

I sucked mine until I was like 8 years old. And when I was 6 or 7, my uncle Kevin told me that his thumb (which had actually been party cut off in an accident) fell off because he sucked it too much. The fear of that happening to me just made me suck it even more, so my mom made him tell the truth.

I had a small dog-teddy thingy. I still have it some where, I just don't know where exactly. It was falling apart the last time I saw it, it is covered in repair patches.

I also had a small wooden nkife that my Dad carved, I actually have it in my hand right now

My sister is20 and still sleeps with her old blanket she got when she was born..I used to sleep with mine up until I was like 12-13..Ahaha..

Now I don't have it anymore but I use my bed sheets almost the same way...It's just more subtile and when I bring a girl home she doesn't suspect anything..

      Ok...sorry back on-topic...

My sister's trans. object was (and still is) our dad's jacket. Its just a green lightweight windbreaker that when she was 2 formed an attachment to. When she starts to drift off to sleep she will rub the fabric together to make that rustle/swoosh sound.....drove me nuts when we were younger and shared a room. She's almost 18 now and thinks that we dont know she still sleeps w/ it. She hides it under her pillow.
I really feel bad the guy she marries someday. I hope he's hard of hearing.

Wow, that was so long ago that I don't even remember. However, my daughter had a little blanket she kept with her.

My son had a beenie platypus. He loved that thing so much that when we were putting together some shoeboxes for a relief program, one of the things he wanted to do was buy a "platy" to put in the box to comfort some poor kid.
