I suck at these. I'm thinking it has to do with poison apples? No...umm. Would I have to know the story of Snow White to get it?
An Apple? >.>;
In under 2 seconds.
I don't get it.
peregrinus is on the right track.
seven seconds.
i guess words are going by the way-side.
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the dog.
"Not I," said the pig.
haha that's kinda cuteQuote:

would have taken me QUITE a bit longer to figure it out, but I like the double entendre
Here's an oldie but goodie (and no googling - that only spoils the fun):
What can run but never walks,
Has a mouth but cannot talk,
Has a bed but never sleeps,
Has a head, yet doesn't weep?
hmmm....a river?Quote:

Im pretty sure its a river, I had heard that one before.

(some parts "run" on batteries) :P
The answer is a river (or a blow up sex toy - I think both technically work  ) I'm going to have to come up w/ harder riddles!
No sooner spoken than broken. What is it?
Silence.
a promise? :?Quote:

I really don't know any riddles, so I had to look one up (sorry).
A puppy is one, but a dog is not.
A kitten is one, but a cat is not.
A cookie is one, but a cracker is not.
What is it?

Here's my favorite:
You run through a long dangerous castle full of terrifying monsters and deadly traps but manage to make it to the exit. You reach a room with two doors planted near each other in the wall and two identical twin brothers in plain hooded robes standing in front of them.
An old man appears out of nowhere and explains to you that one of the doors is the way out and the other leads to certain death, though doesn't tell you which is which. He also explains that one of the brothers always tells the truth and the other always lies, though once again doesn't reveal which is which. The old man then states that you can ask one yes-or-no question and both brothers will answer it. As you look away for a moment the old man disappears and you are left standing in front of the two brothers thinking of the one single question to ask in order to find out which door leads to safety...
What will it be?
no thanks I just lactatedQuote:

You ask one, "Will your brother say that he always tells the truth?"
(I will explain the answer if no one gets it)
Now for one of my favorites, but I'll tell the answer later since it's kind of elaborate/poetic... unless someone else has heard it.
You are stuck in a room with no doors and no windows (and no, it doesn't matter how you got in there). The only thing in the room is a normal mirror. How do you get out?
Bravo :goodjob:Quote:

now...
Ask one door what the other door would answer to your question  (omg- that's actually the only riddle I've ever remembered the answer to! saw it in a movie I think.)Quote:

[i]*Edit: Damn it star!! Took too long :(
Sure you can ask that but then how will you find out which door leads out?Quote:

Well you'd be asking the brothers, not the doors and they're not connected in any way, heh. And what question would that be, eh? Heh. Until the question itself is stated in the manner needed can't really say it's been solved, eh?Quote:

Oh right - she didn't get the answer right, I still got it!
Sorry about the "doors" thing, I started to read the riddle and recognized it so I stopped reading it and refered to the version of the riddle I had seen on TV.
You ask the brother on the left what the brother on the right would answer if you were to ask that bother (left) if he stood in front of the door to safety.
:hrm: eh... something like that, then do the opposite
ME: Brother on the left, if I say you are the door to safety, would your brother agree?
LEFT BROTHER(safety):No, he would not.
--or--
ME: Brother on the left, if I say you are the door to safety, would your brother agree?
LEFT BROTHER(death):Yes, he would.
:dancingcow:
there was a riddle like that in Labyrinth, where the 2 doors looked like playing cardsQuote:

"One of these doors leads to CERTAIN DEATH"
I love that movie :P
You forgot the "*dun dun dun*" right before "CERTAIN DEATH"Quote:

What occurs twice in a moment, once in a million years, but not in a billion years?
An 'm' !!
pwnt!
Some would die for me,
Others would kill.
I make people feel warm,
And sometimes quite ill.
I am just a word
But some call me true.
Though many may find me,
Some never do.
What am I?
that's easy. Love.
The one who makes it sells it.
The one who buys it doesn't use it.
The one who's using it doesn't know he's using it.
What is it?
EDIT: Beat me to it, darn you! It's okay though, I know the answer to yours...*drumroll* A COFFIN!
No battle upon land nor sea
held more blades than found of me
My armies cover hill and field
in countless swords - yet not one shield
Some cut us down, but still we rise
in time, when healed has our demise
For months in vigil we remain
'Till times will change to end our reign.
Errr....grass?
Was gonna say grass, too.
Still trying to figure out Ubik's though.
:hrm:
[Edit: Damn..A coffin. -_- That was a good one.]
a tombstone would also work for Ubik's
Alright well to be precise, you pick one door to point at and ask the following:
Would your brother point me to this door if he wanted me to die?
Both answers will be the same and if they are "no" then the door you pointed to leads to death, if "yes" then it's the way out.
The explanation: given that the door you pointed at leads to death then the lying brother wouldn't point you to it if he wanted you to die and thus the truth telling brother would answer "no"; the truth telling brother on the other hand would indeed point you to that door if he wanted you to die but asking the lying brother about it results in a "no" as he obviously enough lies.
Works similarly vise-versa: given that the door you poitned at leads to safety the lying brother would point you to it (since the question states that he would want you to die) and thus the truth telling brother will answer "yes"; the truth telling brother then wouldn't point you to this door but asking the lying brother about it results in a "yes".
The question above is pretty much in the simplest phrasing though I've heard more complicated constructions of it every now and then.
"This is a thing which nothing is, and yet it has a name. It's sometimes tall and sometimes short, joins our talk, joins our sport, and plays at every game."

i have no clue whatsoever. something to do with that old story about the hen?Quote:

Who is "that man"?
You....given you were a guy. :P
man, y'all are good
Haha. You know what's harder than solving riddles?
Making them up. Haha.
Try this one. It's probably not that hard, though. :P
Search Heaven above or solid ground.
What once was lost shalt not be found.
Some cherish me, some let me go.
And if I'm lost, where at, you know.
And though most smile when me they lack,
many, some day, will want me back.
What am I?
virginity.
